Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. - (1/28/2017) – Chestnut Hill College and Felician University needed four period to settle this evening's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest. Junior guard
Demetrius Isaac (Philadelphia, Pa.) extended the game into the first overtime frame, drawing a foul and converting a pair of free throws to knot the score at 65-65. But in the second overtime frame it was all Golden Falcons as senior guard Bryant Webb (Parlin, N.J.) and junior guard Gjaimeir Stanford (Wilmington, Del.) helped the visitors outscore the home side 15-4 for the 91-80 victory. Isaac totaled 21 points, thanks to a 13-of-15 (.867) performance at the free throw line. But, it was junior center
Chris Evans (Norristown, Pa.) who led the Scarlet and Gold, hitting 5-of-14 (.357) from three point range in a career-best, 25-point effort.
The Chestnut Hill College (4-16, 1-12) trio of Evans, Isaac, and sophomore guard
Liban Awl (Manassas, Va.) combined for 30 second-half points and kept the Griffins tight with Felician University (8-13, 5-8) throughout the frame. The Golden Falcons managed to separate by seven points, 61-54, with 6:13 remaining in regulation, but Isaac and Awl made to the free throw line often enough to whittle the deficit to five points, 65-60 (2:33), before a Evans three pointer reduced it to just two points, 65-63, with 2:12 to go. A series of misses for both sides put the ball in Isaac's hand with only seconds on the clock. Determined to give him team another chance, he stormed the lane and drew the foul, earning the opportunity to extend the game from the charity stripe. And Isaac would do just that, converting both free throws to even the spread at 65-65 (0:04).
An Evans three pointer (68-65 @ 4:20) and three made free throws from Awl separated Chestnut Hill College by six points, 71-65, with 3:33 to play in the first overtime. However, Webb worked his way to the charity stripe twice over the next minute, cutting the deficit to two points, 71-69, at 2:36. He tied the contest, 71-71, less than a minute later (1:44) and kept it spread even, 73-73, after an exchange of made free throws 30 seconds after that (1:14). On the ensuing Griffin possession, a well-executed play call freed Evans at the top of the arch, he knocked down the attempt to distance Chestnut Hill College by three points, 76-73 (0:48), but the basket left enough time on the clock for the Golden Falcons to answer as junior guard Jamar Redmond (Roselle, N.J.) scored a three point shot, 76-76, with 26 seconds (0:26) left to play.
Felician University grabbed the edge with the first basket of the second overtime, 78-76 (4:42) and after a missed three pointer by the Griffins the visitor scored again to control an 80-76 advantage with 2:31 remaining. Unfortunately, that is as close as Chestnut Hill College would get, trailing the Golden Falcons the rest of the way in a 91-80 final.
Sophomore forward Terrell Spaulding (Paterson, N.J.) carried Felician University early, but after totaling 16 points in the first half, fouls limited his time and opportunities in a 24-point effort. Stanford finished as the Golden Falcons' top scorer with 25 points. He and Spaulding combined to hit 9-of-16 (.563) from three point range; the former hitting 4-of-10 (.400) and the latter connecting on 5-of-6 (.833). Junior guard Damiun Moor (Manchester, N.J.) totaled 14 points off the bench and Webb finished the contest with 13 points.
Evans was 10-of-21 (.476) from the field and added six rebounds and an assist to his career-high scoring performance. Isaac grabbed five rebounds and provided two assists in excess of his scoring, while Awl finished the affair with 15 points, two rebounds, two assists, and a steal.
The Chestnut Hill College continues CACC play next Saturday, February 4, when they visit Dominican College for a 3:00 p.m. tip-off.
