Silverman Returns to Chestnut Hill College Tennis as Interim Head Coach

Philadelphia, Pa. - (11/27/2017) – Most recently the Head Women's Tennis Coach at Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) rival, Holy Family University, Andrew Silverman has accepted appointment as the Interim Head Coach of the Chestnut Hill College men's and women's tennis programs. Silverman previously served as an assistant coach (2008-2014) at the College under Albert Stroble before assuming the Head Women's Tennis Coach position with the Tigers, "I could not be more excited to come back and run the men's and women's tennis programs at Chestnut Hill College." Silverman continued, "Right out of college, I spent the first six years of my coaching career here. I feel very proud of the success I experienced working alongside incredible coaches like Albert Stroble and Ryan Gargullo. I learned so much about what goes into running a successful program. I would like to thank Lynn Tubman for welcoming me back and I cannot wait to get started!"
 
11002Silverman was a three-time Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Region Assistant Coach of the Year, once with the Chestnut Hill College men's tennis program (2013-2014) and twice with the women (2011-2012, 2013-2014). During his tenure under Coach Stroble, the Griffins enjoyed five CACC Championship Tournament (2009-2010 through 2013-2014) and two National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) East Region Championship Tournament (2012-2013, 2013-2014) appearances on the men's side, as well as, four CACC Championship Tournament (2010-2011 through 2013-2014) and three NCAA East Region Championship Tournament (2011-2012, 2012-2013, 2013-2014) appearances. He also helped coordinate several ITA East Region Championships (2008-2014) and played a vital role in the recruitment of student-athletes from Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and various international locations.

Chestnut Hill College Director of Athletic and Recreation Lynn Tubman was happy to keep the programs in familiar hands, "I am excited Andrew will be overseeing our programs. He has the experience and passion to lead our men's and women's tennis teams on an interim basis and he is committed to providing our student-athletes with a positive experience during this transition." Under Stroble and Silverman, the Chestnut Hill College men's and women's tennis teams transitioned from NCAA Division III programs into high-level NCAA Division II East Regional competitors. "Our goal is to have a seamless transition, while having our men's team vying for another CACC championship and regional rankings this spring," challenged Tubman. "Andrew will be valuable in leading the programs and assisting in the search for our next head coach."

In two seasons (2015-2017) with the Holy Family University women's tennis team, Silverman led the Tigers to a 13-17 overall record and a 3-12 CACC mark, while mentoring four-time All-CACC First Team performer Anastasiya Kolodiy (Lviv, Ukraine). Sliverman was responsible for domestic and international recruiting for Holy Family University's women's tennis team, as well as, coordinating and conducting strength and conditioning workouts, practices, matches, and additional team activities on a daily basis. During his time with the Tigers, Silverman also served as the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Region Women's Tennis Ranking Chair.
 
Silverman graduated from WCU in 2007 with a bachelor's degree physical education and health with minors in coaching and adapted physical education. During his collegiate career, Silverman has always embodied the spirit of Division II athletics. While playing at WCU, Silverman served as the Men's Tennis representative to the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and served as vice president of SAAC during his fifth-year at WCU. As vice president he helped organized successful fundraisers for the American Cancer Society's "Relay for Life" and The Make a Wish Foundation. During his senior year, he was selected as a finalist to represent the Golden Rams at the NCAA Leadership Conference in Orlando, Florida.
 
Silverman began teaching health and physical education for the School District of Philadelphia in 2009-2010 and is currently instructing at John Moffet Elementary school in the East Kensington neighborhood. He serves as the Philadelphia Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (AHPERD) President and sits on the state executive board of the Pennsylvania State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (PSAHPERD) as the vice president of recreation.
