Box Score New Castle, Del. – (2/15/2017) – The guard-forward combination of sophomore Demetrius Isaac (Philadelphia, Pa.) and junior Chris Evans (Norristown, Pa.) powered Chestnut Hill College to a 31-28 halftime lead over Wilmington University. But the Wildcats won this evening's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest by a 70-63 final after a mid-second half surge brought them from five points down, 40-35, at 15:47 to nine points up, 62-53, with four minutes (4:08) remaining in the contest. Evans finished the game with a team-high 19 points on an 8-of-17 (.471) shooting effort that included three, three point baskets (3-of-7, .429), and came with five rebounds, two assists, and two steals.

Chestnut Hill College (5-19, 2-15) emerged from an early back-and-forth for a 17-8 advantage on a three point basket from sophomore guard Liban Awl (Manassas, Va.) at 14:20. Unfortunately, that lead dissolved to a single point, 17-16, after sophomore guard Omari Dill-Pettiford (Newark, N.J.) capped an 8-0 run with a strike from long range. In response, the Griffins immediately looked to Evans, who connected on a three point basket and a layup to give the Scarlet and Gold a four point, 22-18, lead with 9:42 remaining in the first half. But it only got tighter from there, tying four times before Chestnut Hill College carried a 31-28 lead into the locker rooms.

Following the break, the Griffins held their lead for the only seconds as senior guard Brian Adkins (Aberdeen, Md.) hit a three pointer at 19:37 to even the spread at 31-31. From there, Chestnut Hill College paced Wilmington University to a 40-40 stalemate. But that is where the momentum changed hands. Behind senior guard Tyaire Ponzo-Meek (Wilmington, Del.), the Wildcats separated for a 47-42 lead by 10:56 and later (4:08) a 62-53 advantage that withstood the Griffins final rally efforts in a 70-63 final.

Ponzo-Meek was Wilmington University's top scorer with 19 points. He also recorded six rebounds, an assist, and two blocks. Two other Wildcats joined him in double figures; senior guard Drew Johnson II (Lancaster, Pa.) totaled 16 points in addition to seven rebounds, four assists, two blocks, and a steal, while junior guard Nick Richards (New Castle, Del.) finished with 14 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, and two steals.

Isaac ran the Chestnut Hill College point for 10 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Evans and sophomore forward sophomore Bryant Quill (Pottstown, Pa.) were the primary benefactors. Quill finished with 13 points, six rebounds, an assist, a block, and three steals.

The Chestnut Hill College men's basketball team continues their CACC schedule on Saturday, February 18, when they visit the University of the Sciences (USciences) for a 3:00 p.m. contest.
