Chestnut Hill College Falls To Goldey-Beacom College, 89-72

Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. - (2/21/2017) – Five different Chestnut Hill College players scored in double figures, but it wouldn't be enough as the Griffins fell to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) foe Goldey-Beacom College, 89-72, this evening. Junior guard Vicky Tumasz (North Wales, Pa.) and freshman Shannon Glenn (Philadelphia, Pa.) led the Griffins' attack, each netting 14 points in the loss.
 
Goldey-Beacom College (17-11, 13-6 CACC) jumped out to an early six-point advantage, 13-7, after a trifecta from junior guard Lexi Bruno (Millville, N.J.) with 5:51 remaining in the opening stanza. The Lightning lead grew to seven points, 16-9, at the 2:53 mark, but Chestnut Hill College (16-10, 11-8 CACC) responded, closing the quarter on an 8-2 run to enter the second quarter down just one, 18-17.
 
The teams traded baskets to open the second quarter, with a senior guard Erica McIntosh (Waldorf, Md.) finding Tumasz for a three-pointer to open a 26-23 lead (8:17). With the Griffins leading 36-33 with 2:19 remaining Bruno got to work. Opening and closing an 8-0 run with a pair of three-pointers to send the visitors into the halftime break leading 41-36.  
 
Goldey-Beacom College grew their lead slowly in the third quarter, with Bruno finding junior forward Britani Bryson (Hampton, Va.) in the paint to extend the advantage to nine, 51-42, with 4:09 remaining in the quarter. The Scarlet and Gold trimmed the deficit down to six, following three from senior guard Caity Kuhnen (Binghamton, N.Y.). That is as close as they would get, as Bruno would again find Bryson, with the duo connecting for a layup to send the game into the final quarter with the visitors leading 60-52.
 
The Lightning struck quickly in the final quarter, opening up a 16-point, 72-56, lead following a Bruno three with 6:23 remaining. Chestnut Hill College battled hard, closing the deficit to 14 points, 82-68, following a layup from junior forward Nicole Parriski (Burlington, N.J.) with just under three minutes (2:53) remaining in the contest. The visitors proved too much, however, extending their advantage to 19, 89-70, before settling for the 17-point, 89-72 victory.
 
Bruno had a historic night for the Lightning, netting just the third triple-double in CACC history, finishing with 19 points, 14 assists, and 11 rebounds, in addition to four steals. Bryson also had a strong game, leading all scorers with 28 points on 82.3 % shooting (14-of-17). Freshman guard Amanda McGrogan (Mount Laurel, N.J.) added 27 points, five rebounds and three assists in the victory.
 
Tumasz added three steals and two rebounds in addition to her 14 points, with Glenn adding six rebounds in addition to her 14 points. Sophomore forward Jaeda Wildgoose (Somerset, N.J.) notched 12 points and three rebounds, while Parriski scored 10 points and added four boards off the bench. Sophomore guard Mary Trossi (Somerset, N.J.), the only other CACC women's basketball player to record a triple-double (2), scored 10 points, added three rebounds, three assists and two steals.
 
Chestnut Hill College captured the third seed in the South division for the upcoming CACC tournament. They open CACC postseason tournament play on Saturday, February 25, when they travel to the second seed in the North division, Bloomfield College (20-7, 17-2 CACC). Tip-off is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
