Evans and Isaac Drive Chestnut Hill College to 64-50 CACC Victory Over Georgian Court University

Box Score Lakewood, N.J. – (2/7/2017) – Winning for the first time since a December 3, 82-80 victory at Roberts Wesleyan College, Chestnut Hill College topped Georgian Court University for the second time this season in tonight's 64-50 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) final. The Griffins hi-lo combo of junior center Chris Evans (Philadelphia, Pa.) and sophomore guard Demetrius Isaac (Philadelphia, Pa.) combined for 40 points with the former recording his first collegiate double-double (24 points, 10 rebounds) and the latter playing a determined 40 minutes.
 
Chestnut Hill College (5-17, 2-13) gradually separated from Georgian Court University (1-23, 1-15) over the course of the first half. The difference reached double digits, 21-11, for the first time at 8:26 on a free throw from graduate guard J.J. Butler (Bel Air, Md.). But the Lions came all the way back to tie the contest at 23-23 at 5:03 only for the Griffins to recover for a 32-26 advantage by halftime. After intermission, the Scarlet and Gold marched their lead back to double figures, 40-29, by 15:48. It maxed out at 17 points, 52-35, by 8:41 on a layup from freshman guard Nasir Bell (Philadelphia, PA) before settling on a 14-point, 64-50, final in the Griffins' favor.
 
Sophomore forward Nikola Vujovic (Novi Sad, Serbia) led three Lions in double figures with his 12-point effort. He also shared the Georgian Court University rebounding high, matching seven boards from junior guard Juwuan Carter (Paterson, N.J.). Carter totaled 10 points. Freshman guard Tony Ellington Jr. (Somerdale, N.J.) was a major contributor for the Lions as well with 11 points and six rebounds.
 
Evans' sixth 20-point game came on 10-of-18 (.556) shooting effort and a 1-of-3 (.333) showing at the free throw line. He also recorded an assist and a block with his 24 points. Isaac added four rebounds, two assists, and four steals to his 16-point performance. Bell finished with six points, eight rebounds, and four assists.

Chestnut Hill College returns to Sorgenti Arena on Saturday, February 11, when they host Concordia College (NY) for a 3:00 p.m. CACC, Senior Day contest. The event will also serve as an open house for Martin Luther King Jr. High School and welcomes Pennsylvania State Senator Art Haywood as a special guest.
