Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Shippensburg, Pa. - (3/22/2017) – Finding a playable surface for the first time since returning from their trip to Florida, Chestnut Hill College visited Shippensburg University today, Wednesday, March 22, for a pair of seven-inning contests. The Penmen won the first contest by a 19-6 final and nearly completed the sweep before the Griffins tied the second contest, 3-3, with a pair of unearned runs in the top of the seventh inning. Sophomore Dino Cattai (Philadelphia, Pa.) held the Penmen scoreless in their last at-bats as the contest ran out of sunlight before it did outs and ended in a 3-3 tie due to darkness.

Six different Griffins recorded a hit in the opener; junior shortstop Alec Craig (Hammonton, N.J.) was one of them (1-for-2), He also recorded two hits (2-for-4) in game two and scored the game-tying run by hustling home on a wild pitch.

Sophomore center fielder Vincent Case (Southampton, Pa.) doubled in two runs in the first Chestnut Hill College (4-6-1) at-bat of the twinbill, but Shippensburg University (4-9-1) recorded seven first-inning tallies on three hits to control an early 7-2 advantage. The Griffins cut the deficit to 7-3 in the second inning with senior third baseman Austin DiBonaventure (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.) drawing a one-out walk, advancing to second base on a sacrifice bunt from senior second baseman Jon Baturgil (Freehold, N.J.), and scoring on a Craig single to right field. Unfortunately, the Griffins would not get any closer as the Penmen added a run in the third inning, 8-3, three in the fourth, 11-3, and one in the fifth, 12-3, before outscoring Chestnut Hill College 7-3 in the final inning-and-a-half.

The nightcap was a lower-scoring affair that saw Shippensburg University grab an initial 1-0 advantage with a first-inning sacrifice fly, before DiBonaventure's second-inning, lead-off single produced a tying Chestnut Hill College tally, 1-1; he was replaced at first base by sophomore catcher Eric Small (Downingtown, Pa.), who stole second base prior to scoring on a throwing error by the Penmen shortstop. But, Shippensburg University made up for the errant throw with a run in both the third, 2-1, and fourth, 3-1, innings.

The fifth and sixth innings went by without a blemish, leading to the seventh-inning dramatics. There, freshman outfielder Justin McFadden (Galloway, N.J.) put the Scarlet and Gold wheels in motion with a one-out walk. He advanced to second base on a wild pitch and then third base on a Craig single through the left side. Craig then stole second base to put two Griffins in scoring position; the result was a pair of unearned runs that crossed after two-out error by the Penmen shortstop, 3-2, and a wild pitch, 3-3. Cattai - who battled through the bottom of the seventh inning to ensure the tie – allowed three hits and two walks while striking out two over the final 3.2 innings of the affair.

Chestnut Hill College continues to a hectic spring schedule on Friday, March 24, when they serve as the home team at Goldey-Beacom College's Doyle Field in Hockessin, Delaware. The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader – consisting of a nine and a seven-inning game – is scheduled for a 12:00 p.m. opening pitch.
