New York Institute of Technology Troubles Chestnut Hill College in 21-7 Final

Box Score Old Westbury, N.Y. - (3/25/2017) – Chestnut Hill College's season resumed today at the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT), where the Bears defended their home field in a 21-7 final. Seven different Griffins recorded a goal apiece; three added an assist to their stat line, among them was senior midfielder Jacklyn O'Leary (East Meadow, N.Y.), junior attack Julia Galantich (Clinton Corners, N.Y.), and freshman midfielder Spencer Fitzgerald (Huntingtown, Md.).
 
NYIT (8-1) scored their first goal at 27:43, 1-0. They established a 4-0 (24:01) advantage before Chestnut Hill College (1-6) got on the scoreboard with a connection between O'Leary and Fitzgerald at 23:35, 4-1. The tally sparked a 3-1 stretch included succeeding goals from Galantich and sophomore midfielder Julia Reinert (Bridgeport, Pa.) and left the Scarlet and Gold down 5-3 with 18:21 remaining in the first half. Unfortunately, the Griffin run was overshadowed by a six straight Bear goals as the home team distanced themselves for a 15-4 halftime advantage.
 
The Bears scored the first three goals of the second half, extending their lead to 18-4 (18:39) before junior midfielder Hunter Leckonby (Charleston, S.C.) completed a Galantich feed at 15:36, 18-5. The Griffins scored twice more, the first from junior midfielder Erica McLaughlin (Magnolia, N.J.) (20-6 at 10:03) and the second from O'Leary (21-7 at 4:07).
 
Junior attack Alyssa Milano (Holbrook, N.Y.), senior attack Karie Znaniecki (Port Jefferson, N.Y.), and senior attack Katie Meinecke (Manorville, N.Y.) were the focus of the NYIT offense. Milano recorded five goals, an assist, two ground balls, a draw control, and a caused turnover while the Znaniecki finished with four goals, three assists, and a caused turnover. Mienecke was the Bears' top performer with six goals, three assists, two draws, and two caused turnovers. In goal, senior Lauren Young (Centereach, N.Y.) and sophomore Ashley Miller (Selden, N.Y.) split the minutes; the former earned the win (8-1) and made three saves in the first half (30:00), while the latter made one save in the second half (30:00).

O'Leary and Galantich each added a draw control to their two-point afternoons. Leckonby added four draws to her tally while senior attack Lea Sanders (North Merrick, N.Y.) moved within five goals the century mark with a first-half score. She also recorded four ground balls and two draw controls. Senior attack Samantha Herron (Cinnaminson, N.J.) corralled seven draw controls. In the Griffin goal, sophomore Valeria Amaya (Oakland, Calif.) and senior goalkeeper Katie Joe Lang (Manassas, Va.) (1-6) both saw significant time. Amaya (0-1) made three saves in the opening (32:50) and Lang stopped three in the concluding 27:10.
 
Chestnut Hill College returns to their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) on Wednesday, March 29, when they visit Georgian Court University for a 3:30 p.m.
