Chestnut Hill College Drops Pair of 9-0 Finals To New York Institute of Technology

4/15/2017 8:14:00 PM

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Philadelphia, Pa. – (4/15/2017) – The New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) visited campus for a pair of contests this afternoon. The Bears' offered a pair of strong pitching performances in the twin bill, limiting Chestnut Hill College to just three hits between the two games, and earning a pair of 9-0 victories; the first in five innings and the second in six. Sophomore right fielder Ariel Magee (North Cape May, N.J.), freshman shortstop Cailey Stevenson (Burbank, Calif.), and sophomore designated player Alex Sauer (New Milford, N.J.) were responsible for the Scarlet and Gold hits; Sauer broke up the no-hit bid in game two with a two-out single in the fourth inning.

Sauer's second-game single moved junior second baseman Jaden Perrillo (Shickshinny, Pa.) to second base, but the Chestnut Hill College (9-23) fourth-inning treat was silenced by NYIT (14-12) with the second fielder's choice of the at-bat. The Griffins had a better chance to score in the fifth inning, where a pair of one-out walks to freshman right fielder Victoria Black (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Reposa set the scene. But an out at second base and a walk to sophomore catcher Brielle Riotte (Elizabeth, N.J.) left the Scarlet and Gold in neutral. Sophomore pinch runner Jordan Clark (Greenwood, Del.) and Reposa stole bases to put two Griffins in scoring position. Unfortunately, a fly to left field ended the frame.

Magee led off Chestnut Hill College's first at-bat of the afternoon with a single to second base. But the Griffins' best chance to score in the first game came in the third inning, where Stevenson led off with a single through the left side, before reaching third base with a steal of second and a wild pitch. Regrettably, a pair of infield ground outs kept her there.

After the holiday break, Chestnut Hill College returns to action on Tuesday, April 18, with a 2:30 p.m. Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader versus Concordia College (NY).
