The contest was tight for the first five minutes, 2-2, but eventually went in the visitor's favor as the Lady Rams gradually separated for an 8-4 halftime lead before winning the contest by a 15-9 final. The first two tallies of the contest were scored by Philadelphia University (6-7, 4-3), 2-0, but they were quickly nullified by Chestnut Hill College (5-9, 5-3) with a connection between sophomore midfielder
Julia Reinert (Bridgeport, Pa.) and Fitzgerald at 25:34 (2-1) and a connection between Fitzgerald and junior midfielder
Hunter Leckonby (Charleston, S.C.) at 24:34 (2-2). The separation came after the 24-minute (23:08) mark, where a four-goal run distanced the Lady Rams for a 6-2 lead. The rivals traded tallies over the remaining 20 minutes (19:34) of the opening half, leaving the intermission spread at 8-4, Lady Rams; Leckonby, Reinert, and junior attack
Julia Galantich (Clinton Corners, N.Y.) provided the Scarlet and Gold goals.
In the second half, Philadelphia University continued on their path, using a 7-1 run to eventually separate for a 15-6 advantage. Lang's record save was the major Griffin highlight of the second half until a late three-goal run narrowed the final margin to six goals, 15-9. Fitzgerald scored twice in the final Chestnut Hill College flurry.
The Lady Rams were led by junior attack Kathryn Avanzato (Lake Grove, N.Y.) and graduate defender Courtney Shaw (Langhorne, Pa.); the former finished with four goals, three assists, and a ground ball, while the latter totaled four goals, two assists, four ground balls, four draws, and a caused turnover. In goal, freshman Victoria Raimondi (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) (5-6) made nine saves and collected two ground balls.
Fitzgerald added two ground balls and a draw to her five points. Leckonby finished with two goals, two ground balls, four draws, and four caused turnovers while Galantich provided a ground ball and four draws in excess of her two points (1 goal and 1 assist). Lang (5-7) totaled five saves, four ground balls, and a caused turnover.
Before finishing their CACC schedule, Chestnut Hill College visits Molloy College for a 6:00 p.m. contest on Thursday, April 20.
