#4 Chestnut Hill College Falls in CACC Semifinal To #1 Georgian Court University; 17-10

Box Score Lakewood, N.J. - (4/29/2017) – Today's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Lacrosse Semifinal Round brought #4 Chestnut Hill College to Lakewood, New Jersey, where they engaged host, #1 Georgian Court University (GCU) in the first contest of the afternoon. The Lions separated for a 7-4 halftime lead before eventually defeating the Griffins by a 17-10 final. Junior attack Julia Galantich (Clinton Corners, N.Y.) and senior attack Samantha Herron (Cinnaminson, N.J.) led the Griffins, combining for three goals, four assists, six ground balls, eight draws, and two caused turnovers.
 
Georgian Court University (12-6) hit their run at the 20-minute mark (20:00) of the first half, breaking a 1-1 tie with a three-goal run. Sophomore attack Samantha Fernandez (Toms River, N.J.) started and finished the run Chestnut Hill College (7-11) bookended a Lion goal midway through the period, 4-1. The first tally came on a connection between Galantich and freshman midfielder Spencer Fitzgerald (Huntingtown, Md.) at 16:09, 4-2, and the second at 11:29, when Herron found senior midfielder Lea Sanders (North Merrick, N.Y.) to leave the spread at 5-3, Lions. Unfortunately, another trade of tallies allowed the hosts to score the final goal of the first half, 6-4, before recording the first three of the second half for a commanding a 10-4 advantage.
 
Sophomore midfielder Julia Reinert (Bridgeport, Pa.) (10-5 at 25:32), Galantich (14-6 at 15:26), senior attack Jacklyn O'Leary (East Meadow, N.Y.) (14-7 at 13:57), junior midfielder Hunter Leckonby (Charleston, S.C.) (15-8 at 11:58), Reinert a second time (16-9 at 8:55), and Herron (16-10 at 2:58) all scored second-half goals, but it was not enough to overtake the Lions who kept their distance in a seven-goal victory, 17-10.
 
Fernandez totaled two goals, an assist, a ground balls, and four draws, but her teammates, junior midfielder Xena Valenzuela (Middletown, N.J.) and freshman midfielder Angelina Palermo (Ocean, N.J.) each recorded four points for GCU. Valenzuela offered three goals and an assist in addition to two ground balls and two draws, while Palermo scored four goals in excess of a ground ball, six draws, and two caused turnovers. Sophomore goalkeeper Amber Neumann (Brick, N.J.) (12-6) made 10 saves and recovered three ground balls.

Galantich, Reinert, and Leckonby each scored twice for Chestnut Hill College. Galantich added two assists, three ground balls, and a draw to her tallies. Herron totaled a goal, two assists, three ground balls, seven draws, and two caused turnovers. In goal, senior goalkeeper Katie Joe Lang (Manassas, Va.) (7-9) totaled seven saves and three ground balls.
 
Chestnut Hill College finishes the 2017 season at 7-11 overall and 6-3 in CACC play.
