Chestnut Hill College Outlasts Caldwell University, 17-7

Box Score Lafayette Hill, Pa. – (4/6/2017) – Highlighted by a four goal and four ground ball effort from senior midfielder Lea Sanders (North Merrick, N.Y.), the Chestnut Hill College women's lacrosse team earned a decisive 17-7 victory over Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) foe Caldwell University this evening. Junior attack Julia Galantich (Clinton Corners, N.Y.) added a pair of goals and a game-best six assists, which ranks second all-time in one game for a Griffin.
 
Chestnut Hill College (4-7, 4-1 CACC) opened the first half on a 3-0 run, with scores going to Galantich, freshman midfielder Spencer Fitzgerald (Huntingtown, Md.) and Sanders. Caldwell University (4-6, 2-3 CACC) would get one back when freshman attack Arden Kassaleh (Pompton Plains, N.J.) scored an unassisted marker at the 24:26 mark. The turning point of the half was at the 9:40 mark, when junior midfielder Hunter Leckonby (Charleston, S.C) scored to make the score 7-3 in favor of the hosts. The Griffins would score two more goals in the half, entering the break holding a 7-3 advantage.   
 
The Scarlet and Gold raced out of the gate in the second half, with Leckonby opening and closing a 3-0 run to up the Griffins' lead to eight, 12-4. The Cougars would get one back to trim the deficit (12-5), but back-to-back goals from Chestnut Hill College senior midfielder Jacklyn O'Leary (East Meadow, N.Y.) pushed the advantage to nine, 14-5, with 10:49 remaining. The teams would trade goals down the stretch, but tallies from junior midfielder Erica McLaughlin (Magnolia, N.J.) and freshman attack Haley Norwillo (Duryea, Pa.) – the first of her career – would give the game its 17-7 final.  
 
Junior attack Pamela Schenck (East Moriches, N.Y.) collected three goals for the Cougars, with Kassaleh adding a pair of goals and two draw controls in the loss. Sophomore goalkeeper Elizabeth Ruedemann (Monmouth Junction, N.J.) turned aside 19 shots in the loss (4-6).
 
Sanders paced the offense for the Griffins, scoring four goals while adding four ground balls. Leckonby (three goals, three draw controls), Galantich (two goals, six assists, three ground balls), and O'Leary (two goals, two assists) added to the offensive outburst. Senior goalkeeper Katie Joe Lang (Manassas, Va.) collected seven saves in the victory (4-5). Chestnut Hill College held a 44-15 edge in shots, a 25-14 advantage in ground balls and an 18-7 margin in draw controls.

Chestnut Hill College returns to action on Saturday, April 8, when they visit CACC foe Post University for Senior Day. Game time is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
