Box Score 2 Caldwell, N.J. – (4/8/2017) – Chestnut Hill College visited Caldwell University for a pair of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contests this afternoon. The home side was victorious on both ends, overcoming the Griffins in finals of 9-2 and 3-2. Sophomores, right fielder
Ariel Magee (North Cape May, N.J.) (3-for-7) and third baseman
Lily Winn (Los Angeles, Calif.) (3-for-6) both recorded three hits in the twin bill; sophomore
Nichole Eberhard (Philadelphia, Pa.) (0-4) kept the Griffins close in game two, holding the Cougars to three runs on three runs on three hits and three walks over 4.2 innings of work.
Chestnut Hill College (6-18, 4-6) was on the scoreboard first in the 9-2 opener. They used a lead-off single from Magee, a sacrifice from senior shortstop
Corie Apodaca (Ontario, Calif.), a walk to Winn, and a beaning of junior designated player
Jessica Pulis (Baldwin, N.Y.) to score the Griffins first game, 1-0. Unfortunately, Caldwell University (20-9, 12-0) responded with four runs in the bottom of the first inning, 4-1, and three runs in the bottom of the second, 7-1. They pushed their lead to 8-1 with a run in the fifth inning, before trading runs with the Griffins in the sixth, 9-2. Senior centerfielder
Ashley Sharp (Dresher, Pa.) recorded the second Chestnut Hill College run-batted-in with a two-out, sixth-inning single through the right side.
Game two was scoreless until the third inning, there a lead-off walk to Magee and an Apodaca sacrifice put two Griffins aboard without an out. It then only took a wild pitch and a Winn double to left field to bring Magee home, 1-0. But the Cougars doubled the Chestnut Hill College production in the bottom of the inning, 2-1, and added another in the fifth inning, 3-1. The Griffins hoped to rally in their final at-bat, using a lead-off single from senior first baseman
Jenna Long (North Wildwood, N.J.), a double from sophomore second baseman
Alex Sauer (New Milford, N.J.), and a two-out Winn single to cut the deficit to a single run, 3-2. Unfortunately, the final Scarlet and Gold out came one the next batter.
Chestnut Hill College continues their CACC schedule tomorrow, Sunday, April 10, with a 12:00 p.m. doubleheader at Dominican College.
