Gargullo Named College’s Director of Tennis Operations, Aldrete Assumes Head Coach Responsibilities

Philadelphia, Pa. - (8/2/2017) – Fostering a stronger relationship between Green Valley Country Club and the Chestnut Hill College men's and women's tennis programs, the College's Director of Athletics and Recreation, Lynn Tubman is pleased to announce a restructuring of the Griffins tennis administration. "Coach Gargullo has recently accepted a full-time position as the Head Tennis Professional at Green Valley Country Club. Fortunately, Ryan will remain actively involved with our tennis teams, serving as the College's first Director of Tennis Operations." She continued, "In conjunction, I am also pleased to welcome Richard Aldrete as the head coach of the Chestnut Hill College men's and women's tennis teams."
 
Restructuring of the College's tennis hierarchy, Richard Aldrete, formerly of the Julie Krinsky Camps & Programs, Girard College, and Cabrini College, will assume head coaching duties for both the Chestnut Hill College men's and women's tennis teams. A one-time assistant, and most recently, head coach of the Griffin tennis teams, Ryan Gargullo will now serve as the College's first Director of Tennis Operations. "I believe this new structure will provide opportunities to develop a rewarding relationship between the College and Green Valley Country Club, ultimately enhancing the student-athlete experience and strengthening our programs on the regional and national levels," endorsed Tubman.  
 
"I am very pleased to transition from head coach to the College's Director of Tennis Operations," said Gargullo. "I have recently accepted the Head Professional position at Green Valley Country Club, but I am ecstatic that I am able to forge this great tennis partnership between the two institutions. With the addition of the facilities at Green Valley our student-athletes will not only have access to indoor courts for practices and matches, but the opportunity to work with other tennis enthusiast at a well-respected club." He continued, "Bringing with him over two decades of collegiate tennis experience, Coach Aldrete will continue the progression of success that Chestnut Hill College has become accustomed to. I'm very excited to work with Rich toward future CACC (Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference) Championships and NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) Championship Tournament bids."
 
Aldrete has been a member of the Philadelphia-area tennis community for over 20 years. While serving as a staff professional at Germantown Cricket Club, the director of the Chestnut Hill Tennis Farm, the head coach of the Cabrini College men's tennis program, a staff professional at the Applecross Country Club, a tennis professional with Julian Krinsky Camps and Programs, and the head coach of the Girard College boys' tennis team, Aldrete instructed in the Philadelphia School District as an appointed teacher, building representative, and a delegate for the Philadelphia Federation of Teachers. "I feel very fortunate to be a part of top tennis program, developed by Ryan and his predecessors, which has emerged into a regional tennis powerhouse, and to be a part of mission based college," stated Aldrete. "I feel this collaboration with Ryan could take the program to the next level. I believe we can use our tennis programs as outreach to the urban community, extending our good work and further enhancing the experience of our student-athletes." From 2003 to 2012, Aldrete established the Cabrini College men's tennis program as a consistent competitor in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) (Now known as the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC)). Under his direction the Cavaliers enjoyed seven winning seasons that produced several All-PAC performers and earned him the PAC Coach of the Year title in 2006.
 
As a member of the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA), Aldrete served as the Philadelphia District Vice President and was honored with a "30 Service Award" as an elite professional. Aldrete holds a Pat Etcheberry Fitness Certification and is a Sport Science Competency Coach with the United States Tennis Association (USTA). He currently resides in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania, with his wife Diane and their dog Sambo (A.K.A., McEnroe).
