Chestnut Hill College Scores Second Win With Shutout of Tigers

Box Score | Philadelphia, Pa. - (10/6/2018) – Chestnut Hill College welcomed Holy Family University to campus for this afternoon's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match, where the Griffins quickly disposed of their Tigers counterparts in a 7-0 shutout. The Scarlet and Gold, ended the doubles round in a little more than a half an hour, collecting the first point of the match with chronological wins in the third (6-1), first (6-0), and second (6-1) flights. As individuals, the Griffins continued their success with decisive wins in each singles match; senior Julia Bellon (Indaiatuba, Brazil) provided the clincher with her 6-0, 6-0, victory in the third flight.
   
Junior Nicole Yang (Blue Bell, Pa.) and freshman Gianna Vassalluzzo (Newtown, Pa.) provided Chestnut Hill College (2-3, 2-3) with their first win of the afternoon, claiming a 6-1 win at number three doubles. A following 6-0 number one doubles win from juniors Mia Covic (Novi Sad, Serbia) and Barbara Broville (Toulouse, France) ensured the team point for the Griffins, who completed the sweep of the round with a 6-1 second flight win from Bellon and senior Daniela Siqueira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) (1-0).
 
In singles play, Broville was first to earn a point with her 6-0, 6-0, win in the third flight (2-0). The next Scarlet and Gold point came at number five singles, where Vassalluzzo offered the second of four 6-0, 6-0, triumphs (3-0). Bellon's deciding point came soon after at number two singles (6-0, 6-0) and was followed by a 6-0, 6-1, number four win from Siqueira, a 6-0, 6-0, number one win from Covic, and a 6-1, 6-2, number six win from sophomore Mariana Sanchez (Trenton, N.J.) (7-0).  
 
Chestnut Hill College continues their CACC schedule on Wednesday, October 10, when they welcome the University of the Sciences (USciences) to campus for a 3:00 p.m. match.
