Box Score West Palm Beach, Fla. – (3/10/2018) – Today's getaway-day game at Palm Beach Atlantic University kept Chestnut Hill College a little longer than scheduled as the Sailfish found the game-winning run with a 12^th-inning double, 5-4. Leading the Scarlet and Gold effort, senior shortstop Alec Craig (Hammonton, N.J.) reached base in all seven of his at-bats and freshman Billy Bethel (Yardley, Pa.) threw five innings of scoreless relief, allowing just three hits and a walk while striking out four.
 
Chestnut Hill College (4-5) got on the scoreboard in the their first at-bat, using a lead-off double from Uzzell, a one-out walk to Craig, a double steal, a two-out walk to junior catcher Eric Gilham (Deptford, N.J.) and the third hit-by-pitch of the season for junior left fielder Eric Small (Downingtown, Pa.) to manufacture the tally. But Palm Beach Atlantic University (16-5) got the run back in the bottom of the second inning and later made up for a fifth-inning two-run single from Small and a sixth-inning, run-scoring single from Gilham with a sixth-inning three-run home run, 4-4. From there, the bullpen performance of Bethel carried the Griffins through five scoreless at-bats before turning the ball over. In the 12^th inning, a lead-off hit batsman gave the Sailfish a base runner. After a sacrifice bunt, the Scarlet and Gold improved their chances with an intentional walk only to have a double down the left field line plate the winning run, 5-4.
 
Craig was 3-for-3 with two runs, singling in the fifth and sixth innings, and doubling in the eighth inning, while also drawing four walks in between. Sophomore shortstop Ameir Uzzell (Levittown, Pa.) and senior Matthew Owens (Cherry Hill, N.J.) recorded two hits apiece, while Small knocked in three Griffin runs his first-inning beaning and his two-run single in the fifth inning. Sophomore Dino Cattai (Philadelphia, Pa.) struck out five in the loss (0-1).  
 
The Chestnut Hill College baseball team is scheduled to open their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) season a week from today, on Saturday, March 17, when they host Concordia College (NY) for a 12:00 p.m. doubleheader.
