Box Score West Palm Beach, Fla. – (4/9/2018) – In the first of two games at J.M. "Jake" Rubin Park, Palm Beach Atlantic University overpowered Chestnut Hill College by an 11-2 margin. The Griffins scored both their runs in the eighth inning thanks to a two-out triple by senior shortstop
Alec Craig (Hammonton, N.J.). Staying hot, freshman designated hitter
Erving Nazario (Hamilton, N.J.) doubled in the first inning, sophomore shortstop
Ameir Uzzell (Levittown, Pa.) singled prior to Craig's triple, and freshman
Andrew Dietz (Warrington, Pa.) singled in a ninth-inning, pinch-hit appearance to account for the other Scarlet and Gold hits.
Unfortunately, nothing came of Nazario's first-inning double after a fly to centerfield and a strikeout. Chestnut Hill College (4-4) got a runner aboard in the second inning as well, this time junior catcher
Eric Gilham (Deptford, N.J.) reached on an error by the Palm Beach Atlantic University (15-5) shortstop, and advanced to second on a beaning of junior left fielder
Eric Small (Downingtown, Pa.), but a strikeout and fly to right field dismissed the opportunity. Unfortunately, the Sailfish marked the scoreboard twice in the bottom of the inning, 2-0, twice in the third inning, 4-0, three times in the fourth inning, 7-0, and twice more in the fifth inning, 9-0, before Craig's eighth-inning triple. The Griffin eighth inning began with a walk to sophomore third baseman
Nicholas Smalley (Blue Bell, Pa.) and continued with a grounder out to third base, Uzzell's one-out single to centerfield, and eventually the Craig triple, 9-2. But the offense the rally soon ended and was answered by a two-run double in the Sailfish half of the frame.
The Chestnut Hill College baseball team will have their chance at revenge tomorrow, Saturday, March 10, as they return to Palm Beach Atlantic University for a 12:00 p.m. contest before heading home.
