Box Score 2 Ponoma, N.Y. – (4/22/2018) – In a pair of unfortunate finals, Chestnut Hill College squandered leads in both ends of today's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) at Credit Union Park. Nyack College used a six-run, ninth inning to walk-off with game one, 7-6, then scored six runs from the sixth inning on to take game two, 6-5. Junior
Matthew Kress (Lansdale, Pa.) took no decision in game-one comeback; he allowed one run on seven hits and a walk, while striking out four over eight innings of work.
Chestnut Hill College (16-18, 12-12) scored three runs in their first at-bat of the opener thanks to a Nyack College (20-18-1, 13-11) error, a one-out single to right center field from junior catcher
Eric Gilham (Deptford, N.J.), 1-0, a fielder's choice from senior first baseman
Matthew Owens (Cherry Hill, N.J.), 2-0, and a two-out single from freshman centerfielder
John Contoudis (Jenkintown, Pa.), 3-0. Sophomore second baseman
Ameir Uzzell (Levittown, Pa.) added to the Griffin lead with a sacrifice fly in the second inning, 4-0, before Owens scored on a misplayed ball and a double from freshman third baseman
Jared Healey (Philadelphia, Pa.) plated a pair of runs in the third inning, 6-0. The Warriors got one run back in the fourth inning, 6-1, but constructed their comeback in the ninth inning, getting to the Scarlet and Gold bullpen for six runs, including a three-run, two-out, walk-off double, 7-6. Freshman designated hitter
Andrew Dietz (Warrington, Pa.) (2-for-4), Gilham (2-for-5), and Contoudis (2-for-4) each recorded two hits in the loss.
In game two, the Griffins secured another large lead with a five-run third inning, 5-0, but again fell victim to another Warrior comeback which scored three runs in the sixth inning, 5-3, a run in the seventh inning, 5-4, and two runs in the sixth inning, 6-5. Freshman right fielder
Sam Barletta (Royersford, Pa.) started a two-out rally in the Chestnut Hill College half of the third inning. He single to second base was followed by a Uzzell single to left center a run-scoring Dietz double, 1-0, a two-run single from senior shortstop
Alec Craig (Hammonton, N.J.), 3-0, and a pair of Nyack College errors, 5-0. Unfortunately, the Griffin defense was off their game as well, allowing the Warriors to close the gap in the sixth inning and the winning runs in the eighth inning, 6-5. Owens was the only Griffin to record more than one hit in game two, while senior
Andrew Sibson (Galloway, N.J.) gave a solid starting performance. He gave up one earned run on four hits and five walks, while striking out five in the first six innings.
The Chestnut Hill College baseball team is schedule to continue their CACC schedule on Tuesday, April 24, when they welcome Goldey-Beacom College to Latshaw-McCarthy Field for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader.
