Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Norristown, Pa. – (4/27/2018) – Providing plenty of run support for solid pitching performances from junior Matthew Kress (Lansdale, Pa.) and senior Patrick Kelley (Pipersville, Pa.), Chestnut Hill College swept University of the Sciences (USciences) in today's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader with one-sided finals of 14-4 and 14-5. Freshman right fielder Sam Barletta (Royersford, Pa.) led a group of seven Griffins who recorded two hits in the opener, while senior first baseman Matthew Owens (Cherry Hill, N.J.) tied the Scarlet and Gold's single-season home run mark with his sixth four-bagger of the season scoring two runs the sixth inning of game two.

A dreary afternoon moved today's league doubleheader to Latshaw-McCarthy Field, where Chestnut Hill College (19-19, 15-13) served as the visiting team on their home diamond. The Griffins used the first-ups to get a head start on USciences (8-31, 5-23), as they scored a run in the first inning, 1-0, two runs in the second inning, 3-0, and two runs in the third inning, 5-0, before the Devils decided to join the fray. But after USciences scored a run in the bottom of the third inning, 5-1, the Griffins outscored them 9-3 the rest of the way. Sophomore second baseman Ameir Uzzell (Levittown, Pa.) (2-for-4), sophomore designated hitter Erving Nazario (Hamilton, N.J.) (2-for-5), senior shortstop Alec Craig (Hammonton, N.J.) (2-for-5), freshman centerfielder John Contoudis (Jenkintown, Pa.) (2-for-5), freshman third baseman Jared Healey (Philadelphia, Pa.) (2-for-4), and Barletta each recorded two hits. Barletta totaled three runs-batted-in (RBI), singling in a run with two out in the third inning, knocking in another with a fifth-inning ground out, and plating a third with a ninth-inning double. Kelley (3-0) earned the win, allowing four runs on nine hits and three walks, while striking out two over six innings of work.

The Chestnut Hill College power surge continued in game two, where they scored four runs in their first at-bat and outscored the Devils 6-3 in the first three frames. The real separation came in the sixth inning. There, two hits, four walks, and four USciences errors pushed the Scarlet and Gold to a 13-4 advantage – a lead they eventually extended to 14-5 with a leadoff triple from Craig and a sacrifice fly from senior first baseman Evan Grimes (Norristown, Pa.) in the seventh inning. Uzzell (2-for-5), Craig (2-for-3), Owens (2-for-4), and Healey (2-for-2) recorded two hits apiece, while Contoudis was 3-for-5 and scored four times. Kress (5-3) was the winner in game two, allowing four earned runs on eight hits and two walks, while striking out six over five innings.

The Chestnut Hill College baseball team continues a busy CACC weekend tomorrow, Saturday, April 28, with a 12:00 p.m. doubleheader versus Bloomfield College.
