Box Score 2 Norristown, Pa. – (4/28/2018) – A pair of complete game performances from freshman
Will Shaffer (Sicklerville, Pa.) and senior
Andrew Sibson (Galloway, N.J.) highlighted a pair of wins in today's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader versus Bloomfield College. Chestnut Hill College extended their current winning streak to five games, reached 20 wins for the fifth time in six seasons, and secured CACC postseason play for the eighth time in nine seasons with today's 4-1 and 8-3 Senior Day victories over the Bears.
Senior first baseman
Matthew Owens (Cherry Hill, N.J.) (2-for-4) was one of three Griffins with two hits in the opener and propelled Shaffer (2-2) to victory with a two-run, eighth-inning triple. In game two, senior shortstop
Alec Craig (Hammonton, N.J.) (2-for-3, 2 RBI) and junior catcher
Eric Gilham (Deptford, N.J.) (2-for-4, 3 RBI) combined to go 4-for-7 with five runs-batted-in (RBI), helping the Griffins provide plenty of run support for Sibson's (1-3) first win of the season.
Shaffer held Bloomfield College (12-23-1, 7-17) in check for the duration of game one, surrendering only one run with a fifth-inning balk, 1-0. His teammates repaid him for the hard work late in the affair, as a fielder's choice off the bat of sophomore second baseman
Ameir Uzzell (Levittown, Pa.) evened the contest in the seventh inning, 1-1, and a leadoff triple from Craig in the eighth inning turned the tables. Craig's eighth-inning triple was followed by a walk to Gilham, and Owens' two-run triple to right center, 3-1. Four batters later, a bases-loaded walk to freshman pinch hitter
Andrew Dietz (Warrington, Pa.) brought home the fourth Griffin run, which was more than enough insurance for Shaffer to finish the game. Shaffer allowed one run on six hits and struck out six in his second straight complete-game victory.
Chestnut Hill College (21-19, 17-13) got on the scoreboard early in game two as a Gilham single scored sophomore designated hitter
Erving Nazario (Hamilton, N.J.) and Craig in the bottom of the first inning, 2-0. Bloomfield College got one run back in the second inning, 2-1, and tied the contest in the top of the third inning, 2-2, but a Craig sacrifice fly returned the Griffins to the lead in the bottom of the third frame, 3-2. The Griffins outscored the Bears 5-1 the rest of the way as a Bear error and a wild pitch scored two runs in the fourth inning, 5-2, a Gilham single to short knocked in a run in the fifth inning, 6-2, and a Uzzell double and a Craig triple scored two runs in the eighth inning, 8-3. Sibson allowed one earned run on seven hits, while striking out five.
