Box Score 2 Hockessin, Del. – (4/3/2018) – Freshman
Andrew Dietz (Warrington, Pa.) continued his timely hitting in the first game of this afternoon's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader at Goldey-Beacom College, as his seventh-inning, pinch-hit double gave junior
Dino Cattai (Philadelphia, Pa.) enough run support to earn his third win, 3-1, of the season. Unfortunately, in game two the Lightning's hurler was on his game, limiting Chestnut Hill College to just three baserunners in a 6-0 final.
After winning the first game, 3-1, Chestnut Hill College (8-10, 4-4) had trouble figuring out freshman Trevor Jump (Wilmington, Del.), who allowed only one hit and walked two in a seven-inning, complete game, shutout. Senior first baseman
Matthew Owens (Cherry Hill, N.J.) recorded the Scarlet and Gold's lone hit with a leadoff single in the second inning. But he was promptly picked off and the Griffins went without a baserunner until a fourth-inning, two-out walk to senior shortstop
Alec Craig (Hammonton, N.J.). Following the free pass, Craig swiped his 20
th stolen base of the season. He was left stranded, however, on the following Owens ground out. Sophomore third baseman
Nicholas Smalley (Blue Bell, Pa.) was the third Griffin to reach base, drawing a walk to lead off the seventh inning. He moved to third after a pair of ground out, but never made it home as Jump concluded the game with his seventh strike out of the affair.
Chestnut Hill College was first on the scoreboard in the opener, using a one-out walk to senior third baseman
Evan Grimes (Norristown, Pa.), a wild pitch, a single through left side from sophomore second baseman
Ameir Uzzell (Levittown, Pa.), and a single to right field from sophomore designated hitter
Erving Nazario (Hamilton, N.J.) to push the run across, 1-0. Goldey-Beacom College evened the score in the fourth inning by taking advantage of a Griffin error and a one-out double to left field, 1-1. Dietz knocked the winning run home in the seventh inning, where senior center fielder
Demetrius Isaac (Philadelphia, Pa.) hustled to first on a strike-three passed ball and scored just moments later when Dietz doubled to center field, 2-1. Freshman third baseman
Jared Healey (Philadelphia, Pa.) singled in the third Griffin run in the top of the ninth inning, knocking in Isaac, who reached on a one-out single to the Lightning second baseman. Cattai (3-0) had his best outing of the season so far, limiting Goldey-Beacom College to an unearned run on five hits and a walk. He struck out two in the complete game performance.
The Chestnut Hill College baseball team returns to Latshaw-McCarthy Field on Friday, April 6, when they host Wilmington University in a 1:00 p.m. CACC doubleheader.
