John Contoudis (Jenkintown, Pa.) recorded three hits (3-for-4) in the opener, but senior shortstop
Alec Craig (Hammonton, N.J.) and junior catcher
Eric Gilham (Deptford, N.J.) plated the Griffins' two runs. In the nightcap, the Scarlet and Gold offense exploded, totaling 20 hits and putting up crooked numbers in the first (2), fifth (5), seventh (6), and eighth (4) innings for the program's 200th victory.
Game two was competitive through four innings and Caldwell University (2-18, 2-8) actually led until the top of the fifth inning, 6-4. There, a leadoff double from Craig, a single to centerfield from Gilham, and a triple to centerfield from freshman left fielder
Andrew Dietz (Warrington, Pa.) brought home the first two runs of the at-bat, 6-6. A following single to left field from senior first baseman
Matthew Owens (Cherry Hill, N.J.), double to left field from sophomore designated hitter
Erving Nazario (Hamilton, N.J.), and a ground out from senior center fielder
Demetrius Isaac (Philadelphia, Pa.) knocked in the other three, 9-6. Over their next three at-bats, Chestnut Hill College (9-13, 5-7) scored 11 more runs to put the contest well out of the Cougars reach, 20-6. Six Griffins recorded multiple hits and five knocked in at least two runs in the melee. Senior
Patrick Kelley (Pipersville, Pa.) earned the win (2-0) with 3.1 innings relief.
In the opener, Caldwell University took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Chestnut Hill College matched the tally in the third inning, where a two-out double from Craig knocked in Isaac, 1-1. Isaac also scored in the top of the sixth inning, crossing on a Gilham single to third base to give the Griffins a 2-1 lead. But the Cougars answered with three runs in the bottom of the frame to give sophomore Jack Anderson (Nyack, N.Y.) (1-2) the run supported he need in the win, 4-2.
The Chestnut Hill College baseball team continues their CACC schedule on Wednesday, April 7, when they welcome Jefferson to Latshaw-McCarthy Field for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader.
