Matthew Owens (Cherry Hill, N.J.) highlighted the Griffins' 8-6 game-one loss, while a 3-for-3 effort from sophomore second baseman
Ameir Uzzell (Levittown, Pa.) helped support a complete-game performance from senior
Andrew Sibson (Galloway, N.J.). Unfortunately, the Wildcats one the nightcap as well, 6-4.
Wilmington University (12-12, 9-3) wasted no time getting the upper hand on Chestnut Hill College (8-12, 4-6), scoring four runs in their first two at-bats, 4-0. The Griffins answered in the third inning, when a leadoff double from freshman third baseman
Jared Healey (Philadelphia, Pa.), a run-scoring single from senior center fielder
Demetrius Isaac (Philadelphia, Pa.), and a pair of doubles from senior shortstop
Alec Craig (Hammonton, N.J.) and freshman
Andrew Dietz (Warrington, Pa.) narrowed the margin to 4-3. In the sixth, another leadoff double – this one from freshman right fielder
John Contoudis (Jenkintown, Pa.) – and a single from Healey allowed the Griffins to tie the contest on a double-play ball to the third baseman, 4-4. But the Wildcats doubled their run total in the seventh inning, rendering Owens' two-run homer without consequence, 8-4.
Owens (2-for-4) and Craig (2-for-5) recorded two hits apiece, while sophomore
Jerry Mangan (Wayne, Pa.) held the Wildcats scoreless in 2.1 innings of relief. He allowed one hit, walked one, and struck out one.
A three-run second inning gave Wilmington University the edge in game two as well, 3-0. In the third inning, a one-out triple from Craig and a fielder's choice off the bat of junior catcher
Eric Gilham (Deptford, N.J.), cut the Wildcat lead to 3-1. Unfortunately, a three-run fifth inning put the game just out of reach for the Griffins, who trimmed the final to 6-4 with two runs in the sixth inning. Isaac led off the Scarlet and Gold sixth inning with a double down the right field line, moved to third on a Uzzell comebacker, before scoring on a grounder to short from sophomore pinch hitter
Erving Nazario (Hamilton, N.J.). Uzzell was the second run, crossing on a Craig's following ground out.
Uzzell's three hits were all singles and came in the first, fourth, and sixth inning. Craig (2-for-3) and Isaac (2-for-3) finished with two hits apiece. Sibson (0-2) allowed five earned runs on eight hits and a walk, while striking out two.
