Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. - (9/25/2019) – Chestnut Hill College improved to 2-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play with today's 6-1 victory over Holy Family University. The victory was the Griffins' third straight by that score as the Scarlet and Gold swept doubles competition and clinched the match with sequential wins at number two (6-0, 6-1), number three (6-0, 6-0), and number one (6-0, 6-0) singles.
Chestnut Hill College (3-1, 2-0) secured the doubles point with wins in the third and first flights; senior
Nicole Yang (Blue Bell, Pa.) and junior
Mariana Sanchez (Trenton, N.J.) provided the initial Scarlet and Gold win with their 6-0 victory in at number three doubles, before seniors
Barbara Broville (Toulouse, France) and
Mia Covic (Novi Sad, Serbia) concluded the top team flight by the same score (6-0). With the point in-hand, the Griffins also claimed number two doubles thanks to a 6-2 win by sophomore
Gianna Vassalluzzo (Newtown, Pa.) and freshman
Carlota Garcia Arguelles (Madrid, Spain).
In singles, the Griffins continued their dominance of Holy Family University (0-4, 0-3) with four straight singles wins. They only needed the first three to clinch the CACC score; Broville secured the first with her 6-0, 6-1, win at number two singles, next was earned with Garcia Arguelles' 6-0, 6-0, win at number three singles, and the last was collected with Covic's 6-0, 6-0, win at number one singles. Win in-hand, Chestnut Hill College took two of the remaining three individual matches; Vassalluzzo won number five singles by an 8-0 measure and Sanchez scored an 8-1 win at number six singles.
Chestnut Hill College returns to the Campus Tennis Courts on Saturday, September 28, to host Post University in a 12:00 p.m. CACC match.
