Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. - (9/29/2019) – Chestnut Hill College improved to 3-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play with today's valuable 4-3 league-victory over Post University. Bookend wins at number one (6-1) and number three (6-4) doubles provided the Griffins with a 1-0 lead heading to singles play. There, the Griffins surrendered a 6-1, 6-0, decision at number four singles before securing the conference prize with consecutive wins at number six (6-1, 6-1), number five (6-0, 6-1), and number three (6-4, 6-3) singles.
Seniors
Barbara Broville (Toulouse, France) and
Mia Covic (Novi Sad, Serbia) opened the match with a 6-1 win at number one doubles. Post University (4-3, 2-1) kept doubles interesting with their 6-4 win in the second flight, but their rally was short-lived as senior
Nicole Yang (Blue Bell, Pa.) and junior
Mariana Sanchez (Trenton, N.J.) secured Chestnut Hill College (4-1, 3-0) the doubles point (1-0) with their 6-4 win in the third flight.
At the start of singles play, the Eagles evened the match (1-1) with a 6-1, 6-0, win at number four singles. But the score did not remain tied for long as Sanchez, sophomore
Gianna Vassalluzzo (Newtown, Pa.), and freshman
Carlota Garcia Arguelles (Madrid, Spain) respectively recorded individual victories at number six (6-1, 6-1), number five (6-0, 6-1), and number three (6-4, 6-3) singles. Post University recorded the remaining individual flights to keep the final respectable.
Chestnut Hill College returns to the Campus Tennis Courts tomorrow, Sunday, September 29, join the men's for a 1:00 p.m. Senior Day dual match with Bloomsburg University.
