Clippers Take Down Griffins in Neutral Site Contest

BOCA RATON, Fla. (3/5/2020) -- Chestnut Hill College baseball (3-3) fell in a high-scoring clash against Concordia College (2-7). The Griffins jumped out to an early lead but conceded a pair of six-run innings to the Clippers, who earned themselves a 13-10 win. 

After the Griffins got on the board first with a run on an error, junior infielder Jared Healey (Philadelphia, Pa.) hit an RBI single and sophomore utility knocked a sacrifice fly to an the opening inning with a 3-0 lead. 

Concordia College jumped ahead in the top of the third inning, belting six runs off five hits – including a double with the bases loaded from senior Joseph Impeduglia to drive in three runs. The Griffins cut into the lead with runs off a pair of errors in the fourth and fifth inning, but the Clippers dealt the Scarlet and Gold another blow with a six-run sixth inning – tallying the runs off three hits and two errors. 

Chestnut Hill College attempted to recover in the bottom of the sixth inning, starting with a two-run home run from sophomore Corbin Dunnuck (Mohnton, Pa.). The Griffins continued to rally with a two-run double with two outs from junior outfielder John Contoudis (Jenkintown, Pa.), who would eventually score on an error to make it 13-10. 

The Scarlet and Gold's run ended there, as the Clippers' pitching staff kept the Griffins at bay through the final three innings to take the neutral site victory. 

The spring break trip continues for Chestnut Hill College against Florida Memorial University in Miami Gardens, Florida. The three-game set starts at 2 p.m. Friday, March 6.
