Gabby Hassler ran a personal best time as she led the Chestnut Hill college women's Cross country team to a fifth place finish at the 22
nd Annual Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Women's Cross Country Championship Sunday morning at Belmont Plateau in Philadelphia.
The Griffins finished with 134 points to place fifth among the 12 schools competing. Holy Family University was fourth with 101 points while Wilmington University (88 points) and seven-time defending champion Jefferson University (42) was third and second respectively. Felician university won the team title with 36 points.
Hassler became just the fifth women's cross-country runner in program history to earn all-conference honors, finishing in 13
th place with a time of 21:08.4.Â
Sydney Watts narrowly missed garnering all conference honors which goes to the top 15 finishers, placing 16
th with a time of 21:26.8.
Marcela Banuelos and
Rebecca Dalton were Chestnut Hill's next two finishers, placing 33
rd and 34
th respectively out of 70 total finishers with times of 23:10.5 and 23:13.2. Banuelos and Dalton, who are also members of the Griffins' successful women's soccer team were running in their first race of the season. For Dalton,  it was also her collegiate debut.
Aubrey Elias rounded out the Griffins' top five finishers with a time of 23:58.8. Â
Lilly Short ran a 5,000-meter personal best in Sunday's race with a time of 25:09.2.Â
Taylor Kirby rounded out the Chestnut Hill runners with a time of 26:15.2, also a personal best time.
The women's cross country team will wait to see if they will continue on to the NCAA East Region Championship held later in November in Bethpage, New York.
