Four members of the Chestnut Hill College Women's Cross Country team recorded personal-best times as the team recorded its highest finish ever at the NCAA division II east Region Cross Country Championships at Bethpage State Park in Garden city, New York Saturday afternoon.
The team placed 17
th overall out of 19 complete teams and 26 total schools that fielded runners in the event. The Griffins scored 451 points, 57 points behind 16
th place Molloy University. Southern New Hampshire University won the region championship with three runners in the top ten individual finishers and a total of 52 points.
Leading the way for the Griffins was
Sydney Watts. Watts finished the 6,000-meter course in 25:24.1 to place 83
rd overall. Right behind Watts was
Gabby Hassler, placing 85
th with a time of 25:38.8.
Rebecca Dalton and
Marcela Banuelos were the next two CHC finishers, placing 103
rd and 114
th respectively with personal-best times of 26:35.0 and 27:16.6. Â
Aubrey Elias rounded out the Griffins top five finishers with a 6K time of 27:50.0.
Lilly Short and
Taylor Kirby, running in their final collegiate race as members of the Griffins cross country team, both recorded personal best times on the day with Short finishing in 29:25.7Â and Kirby finishing in 29:40.1
