Elijah Fogg broke the school record for the shot put as the Chestnut Hill College men's track and Field Team qualified two more athletes for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championships as the Griffins competed at the Paul Kaiser Invitational in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania on Saturday.
The Griffins also recorded six top 20 finishes and five collegiate personal best marks were established. The Paul Kaiser Invitational is one of the biggest regular season meets that the Griffins participated in this season with 30 schools fielding teams.
Fogg broke the old record of 11.43 meters on his first throw in the shot put competition with his throw of 11.44 meters (about ½ inch further than the previous mark). He finished in 18
th place overall and bettered his qualifying mark for the CACC meet. His record throw of 11.44 meters ranks 11
th among conference shot putters.
Jason Fisher and
John Castro were the two new athletes who qualified for the CACC championship meet. Fisher, running in his first 10,000 meter race this season finished sixth with a time of 36:21.28. Castro bettered the qualifying time in the javelin by 1.15 meters with a throw of 35.60 meters (116'9"), a new collegiate personal best.
Castro also recorded a collegiate personal best mark of 9.76 meters (32' ¼") in the shot put.
Moving back to the track,
Tyheem Bailey ran a collegiate personal best time of 11.50 seconds in the 100 meter dash. Teammate
Branden Moye equaled his best time in the same event completing the race at 11.40 meters and finishing in 15
th place overall.
Matthew Davis had a collegiate personal best time of 26.15 seconds in the 200 meter dash while
Chris Nelson recorded his collegiate best mark of 2:06.31 in the 800 meter run.
The Griffins' 4x100 meter relay team of Bailey,
Damir Kee, Ty Smith and Moye finished ninth overall with a time of 45.51 seconds to round out the top 20 performances on the track.
Back at the field events,
Jason Chedester finished right behind Fogg in the shot put (19
th place) with a toss of 11.33 m. (37' 2¼"). Chedester was also 19
th in the javelin with a throw of 40.18 meters (131' 10").
The Chestnut Hill College Men's Track and Field team will compete at the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference championship meet next weekend, May 7-8, 2022 at Georgian Court University.
