The Chestnut Hill College Department of Athletics and Head Men's Soccer Coach
Ahmed Elgayar are pleased to announce their 2022 men's soccer schedule.
"The Griffins are excited to get back to the pitch," said Coach Elgayar". "We have put together a strong schedule with some familiar match ups from last season and have added some new non conference match ups as well"
This year's 18-game schedule is heavy on home contests with 11 of the matches being contested at Victory field in Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania, the home of Griffins Soccer. The schedule features 12 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contests along with six non-conference games with all but the Griffins season opener against Queens College on August 31 being played at victory field.
Following the Queens match, Chestnut Hill will host Millersville University over Labor Day weekend on September 3 and then play Saint Thomas Aquinas college on September 7. The Millersville match will kickoff at 1:00 p.m. while the match against STAC will be a 7:00 p.m. start.
Chestnut Hill will also host non-conference matches against Daemen College (9/21), Shippensburg University (10/3) and the College of Staten Island (10/5). All three matches are slated to kick off at 7:00 p.m.
"We open to a young and dynamic Queens College team who will challenge us right away, "adds Elgayar. " Our next two non conference opponents are very strong. Millersville, who won their conference championship in a very strong PSAC conference and made it all the way to the NCAA DII Tournament Elite 8. We tied with STAC last year after going up 2-0 in the first half. STAC also advanced to the ECC championship game before losing to Molloy."
The Griffins will begin conference play on September 10 with a game on the road against a new CACC foe, the University of Bridgeport. Bridgeport is beginning their first year in the league after leaving the East Coast Conference.
"Bridgeport being added to the CACC from the ECC is fantastic. They will compete and challenge the conference right away," adds Elgayar. Since they are our conference opener, we have to be ready for them and make sure we are prepared. We will not have much information on them but we must be up for the job."
Following the conference opener, the Griffins will have four straight tough contests, all against teams in the upper half of last year's standing, including three of the four CACC Championship Tournament semi-finalists, starting with Wilmington University at home on September 14 (7:00 p.m.). Chestnut Hill will host Nyack College on September 17 (3:00 p.m.) and CACC Tournament Runner-up Dominican University (NY) on September 24 (8:00 p.m.). The Griffins will then travel to face another semi-finalist from last year, Holy Family University on September 28.
Rounding out the remaining home contests will be games against Caldwell University (10/8), Jefferson University (10/18) and Georgian Court University (10/26). Caldwell will be a 2:00 p.m. start while the Jefferson and Georgian Court matches will start at 7:00 p.m.
The remainder of the Griffins' conference schedule includes road games at Felician University (10/1); Goldey-Beacom College (10/12); defending CACC Champion Post University (10/15); and Bloomfield College (10/22).
The conference tournament begins on November 1 with the top eight teams in the league qualifying. The quarterfinal games will be played at the higher seed host sites with the winners advancing to the semi finals which will be hosted at Holy Family University on Friday, November 4. The CACC Championship game will be played on Sunday, November 6 at Holy Family.
