EXCERPT FROM NCAA WOTY PERSONAL STATEMENT
"An early goal of mine as a student-athlete was to have a positive impact on others. When I was in middle school, my younger cousin was diagnosed with brain cancer. One of things that brought him a tremendous amount of joy was when the Penn State Men's Lacrosse team adopted him as a lifetime honorary team member through the Friends of Jaclyn Organization. Besides being a part of the team, I saw how the players and coaching staff became extended family. I approached our coach at Chestnut Hill to see how we could get involved in a similar program. We enrolled in Team Impact, a program in which sports teams are matched with children facing serious illnesses. In 2019, our Chestnut Hill basketball team was matched with Alice. Since then, she's helped us get pumped up for big games in the locker room, invited us to go bowling to celebrate her birthday, and participate in the annual Holiday Cookie Day at my house. As college athletes, it is easy to define yourself solely as an athlete, but being involved in organizations like Team Impact, allows us to see ourselves in a much broader perspective and feel lasting purpose outside of the sport. "
