Sophomore
Cole Stanchina excelled in his men's indoor track and field debut, breaking the Chestnut Hill College school record for 5,000 meters as the Griffins opened their season at the Frank Colden Invitational held at Ursinus College on Saturday.
The meet was the Griffins' first indoor competition since the 2019 season.
Stanchina completed the 5,000 meter race with a time of 15:38.04 to place fourth overall in the competition. His time broke the old mark of 16:30.43 set by Eric Barton in 2017.Â
Christopher Nelson also bettered Barton's old record, finishing ninth overall with a time of 15:44.68.
In sprints, the Griffins got three top 20 finishes in the 60-meter dash with
Brandon Moye leading the way finishing second in his heat and 11
th place overall with a time of 7.36 seconds.Â
Tyheem Bailey was also second in his heat with a time of 7.38 seconds, placing 13
th overall.Â
Pierson Dyson returning to competition after missing all last year with an injury and won his heat with a time of 7.45 seconds, placing 20
th overall. Â
Elijah Williams finished with a time of 7.92 seconds, placing fifth in his heat.
In the 200 meter dash event, there were 15 total heats with the Griffins four sprinters all running in the final two. Moye won his heat with a time of 24.59 seconds while Bailey, Dyson and Williams placed 1-2-3 in their heat with times of 24.89, 25.55, and 26.58 seconds.
Jason Fisher competed in the mile run for the first time as a collegian, finishing in 4:55.52.
In the only field event that Griffins entered, the shot put.Â
Jason Chedester recorded a toss of 11.19 meters (36' 8½") while
Elijah Fogg threw the shot 10.67 meters (35'0")
 The Men's Track and Field team returns to action at the Garden State Games at Ocean Breeze in Staten Island, New York on February.
