Six members of the Chestnut Hill college Men's Track and field team produced Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference qualifying efforts as the Griffins opened their outdoor track and field season at the Monmouth University Invitational in West Long Branch, New Jersey over the weekend.
The Griffins had one thrower, one jumper, and four runners turn in CACC qualifying efforts at the meet.
In the throws,
Jason Chedester tossed the javelin 40.34 meters (132' 4") to better the CACC standard of 38.73 meters. Chedester's effort placed him 23
rd overall in the event. Â Chedester also competed in the shot put with his final throw of the day being his best at 10.87 meters (35'8")
In the long jump competition,
Pierson Dyson second jump of the day carried the senior athlete 6.11 meters (20'½") and also earned a qualifying spot in the conference championship meet.   Dyson finished 15
th overall.
Moving onto the track, a pair of Griffin sprinters both recorded a top-20 finish in the 100-meter dash and also qualified for the conference championship meet.Â
Tyheem Bailey was 14
th overall with a time of 11.19 seconds while
Branden Moye was 18
th overall with a time of 11.27 meters.
Moye and Bailey, along with Dyson and
Tyrease Harris also formed the Griffins' 4 x100 meter relay team that finished sixth overall with a time of 44.41 seconds. Dyson also competed in the 100-meter dash running the race in 11.63 seconds.
The 1,500-meter race saw
Chris Nelson run a CACC qualifying time of 4:12.27, placing 35
th overall.  Â
Cole Stanchina rounded out the Griffins conference qualifiers, bettering the conference standard for the 5,000-meter run by over 13 seconds, finishing in 16:31.46
Bailey was the workhorse of the Griffin squad. In addition to competing in the relay and 100-meter dash, he also raced in the 200 meter dash (23.02 seconds) and competed in the long jump (5.89 m. (19'4"))
Moye, Harris and
Elijah Williams also competed in the 200-meter dash, producing times of 23.43, 24.40 and 24.70 seconds respectively. Williams also added the 110-meter hurdles to his competition day, finishing with a time of 19.67 seconds.Â
Jason Rivas ran the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.04 seconds
Jason Fisher competed in the 1,500-meter run, finishing in 4:29.10 while back in the field events,
Elijah Fogg tossed the shot put 10.59 meters (34'9") and
Michael Lopez-Zabala three the javelin 34.55 meters (113'4")
The men's track and field team returns to action for the Towson invitational held in Towson Maryland on March 31 and April 1.
