Members of the Chestnut Hill college Men's Track and field team produced six personal best marks and added three Central Atlantic collegiate conference qualifying performances as the team competed at the Towson University Invitational at Johnny Unitas Stadium in Towson, Maryland on Saturday.
Christopher Nelson led the way, turning a personal-best mark and qualifying for the 5,000 meter run with a time of 15:43.35. Nelson finished fourth overall in the race. His time is also the third fastest 5,000-meter time run by a CACC runner so far this season. Nelson also ran a personal best time of 2:05.73 in the 8,00-meter run.
Jason Fisher also had personal best times in two events, narrowly missing the CACC qualifying mark of 16:45.00 in the 5,000 meter race with a time of 16:45.20, placing 18
th overall. Fisher also recorded a personal best time of 4:25.65 in the 1,500-meter race.
In addition to Nelson's qualifying performance in the 5,000-meters
, Tyrease Harris, competing in his first 400-meter hurdles race, qualified for the conference championships with a time of 1:01.85, placing 14
th overall in the event. In the shot put competition,
Jason Chedester earned his second qualifying mark for the conference meet, with a toss of 11.56 meters (37' 11¼") in the shot put, placing 13
th overall. Chedester had qualified last week for the javelin throw.
Elijah Williams set a personal best mark on 18,27 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles competition placing 17
th overall while
Branden Moye bettered his 100-meter qualifying time of 11.27 seconds from last week with a time of 11.22 seconds on Saturday, placing 22
nd overall.
Moye and Harris along with
Tyheem Bailey and
Pierson Dyson formed the Griffins' 4 x100 meter relay team. The team finished seventh with a time of 44.07 seconds.
Dyson and Bailey finished 20
th and 24
th respectively in the long jump, with Dyson leaping 5.68 meters (18' 7¾") and Bailey jumping 5.47 meters (17' 11½")
In addition to the shot put, Chedester competed in the javelin event, throwing the spear 38.05 meters (124' 10") finishing ninth overall.Â
Michael Lopez-Zabala finished 11
th in the event with a toss of 33.20 meters (108' 11").
Elijah Fogg rounded out the Griffins' field athletes, competing in both shot put and discus. Fogg finished 14
th in the shot, one place behind Chedester with a throw of 11.29 meters (37' ½"). He was 25
th in the discus competition with a throw of 22.82 meters (74' 10").

The men's track team returns to action on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, when they compete at the York College Twilight Meet in York, Pennsylvania. Â
