Two members of the Chestnut Hill college women's Tennis team have been named to the College sports Communicators (CSC) Women's Tennis Academic All District team in an announcement made by the organization and the CSC Academic All-America® committee.

Named to this year's academic all-district team were senior Carlota Garcia Arguelles and junior Nele Haag.

The 2022-23 Academic All-District® Women's Tennis Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field or court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes men's tennis honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

To be eligible for Academic All-District accolades, student-athletes must be in at least their second year at their institution, appear in 50 percent of their team's contests, be a starter or significant reserve and have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or better.  Graduate student's undergraduate g.p.a. along with their graduate program g.p.a. must both be 3.50 or above.

Garcia Arguelles and Haag are just the second and third women's tennis players in the history of the program to earn Academic All-district accolades, joining Maria Parapouras who was a women's at-large all district selection in 2013.  This is the first season that the CSC has named a women's tennis team separate from the at-large program.

Haag sports a double major in international affairs and political science and with a perfect 4.0 grade point average, was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Top XVII Award winner which is given to the women's tennis student-athlete that has the highest g.p.a. and is competing at the conference championship tournament.

Earlier this month, Haag was inducted into two honor societies, Chi alpha sigma, the national student athlete honor society and Phi sigma Iota, the foreign languages honor society.  She has also been named to the CACC Women's Tennis all-Academic team twice, earned the D2 Athletic Directors Association (D2ADA) Academic Achievement Award and is a two-time ITA Scholar Athlete (2021, 2022).

This season Haag produced a 16-5 record in double competition, including a 9-1 mark in conference play along with an 11-9 record at singles, helping to guide her team to the CACC Semi-finals for the second consecutive year

Garcia Arguelles is a three-time all-CACC honoree, earning second team accolades the past two seasons and first team honors in the spring of 2021.  Carlota is also a three-time CACC all-Academic team honoree.

Like Haag, Garcia Arguelles also sports a double major in international affairs and political science.   She is a member of four different honor societies at Chestnut Hill:  Chi alpha Sigma, the national student athlete honor society, Phi Beta Delta (international studies), Pi sigma Alpha (political science) and Phi Sigma Iota (foreign languages).

The senior athlete also earned D2ADA Academic Achievement Award honors last season and is a two-time ITA Scholar Athlete recipient (2021-2022).

This season, Garcia Arguelles compiled a 9-11 singles record at #1 and #2 singles while sporting a 13-9 mark in doubles play (all at #1 doubles).

The women's tennis team concluded their 2022-23 campaign with a 9-12 record and a 4-6 mark in conference games.

Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced later this month.
