Twelve members of the Chestnut Hill college sprint football tram have earned all-conference accolades from the Collegiate Sprint Football League in an announcement made by the league office Monday morning. The all-conference team is voted on by the league's nine coaches.
The 12 Griffins named to the team represent the most Chestnut Hill players to be selected to a CSFL all-conference team since the 2016 season when 13 Chestnut Hill players were honored. Five players earned First Team honors while four garnered second tram accolades and three were honorable mention All-CSFL.
Earning first team honors for the Griffins were junior Kyree Griffin, seniors Anthony Droege and Nick Suscovich, sophomore Lawrence Howard V and freshman Xavier Limehouse. All five were First Team Offense honorees.
Juniors Cam Goldsmith and Jonathan Havrilak along with sophomores Amir Jenkins and Lexx Santiago earned second team honors with Goldsmith, Havrilak and Jenkins earning Second Team Defense accolades and Santiago Second team Offense honors.
Senior Matt Gauld and juniors Lex Williams and Anthony Cancellare were honorable mention All-CSFL selections. Cancellare was honorable mention offense while Williams and Gauld earned honorable mention defense.
Havrilak and Williams earn All-CSFL honors for the third time with Havrilak garner his thirds consecutive second team defense honor and Williams earning second team last year and honorable mention in 2022. Griffin becomes a two-time first team honoree with this year's selection.
Griffin, a wide receiver, led the team with 29 receptions, 396 receiving yards and four touchdown catches, ranking fourth in the league in all three categories. Howard, a running back, broke the school's single season rushing mark with 734 yards to rank second in the league. He also scored eight rushing touchdowns, also a school record.
Chestnut Hill earned first team honors at the tight end position for the third straight year with the selection of Droege. Droege was second on the team with 12 catches and had one touchdown. Limehouse was the Griffins primary kick returner, recording 237 yards on the season.
Suscovich and Santiago are both members of the Griffins offensive line and were part of the CHC unit that allowed just two sacks on the season, the fewest sacks allowed by any CSFL team. As offensive lineman, Suscovich and Santiago helped create running lanes to the tune of a school record 1,393 yards on the ground this season.
Cancellare rounds out the Griffins offensive players on the CSFL all-conference team. The junior quarterback threw for 863 yards (fourth in the league) and tied for second in the conference with ten touchdown tosses.
On the defensive side, the Griffins four leading tacklers all were named to the all-conference team. Williams led the team with 41 tackles while Havrilak had 40. Goldsmith had 34 tackles and led the team with 4.5 sacks. Jenkins had 2.5 sacks along with 32 tackles and two interceptions. Gauld, the fifth CHC defensive player to earn all-conference tallied 15 tackles on the season.
The Chestnut Hill College sprint football team finished their 2023 campaign with a 5-2 overall record and a 2-1 mark in CSFL South division action, finishing second in the division standings behind Navy. Their 5-2 mark equals their best record in program history.
