Gabby Hassler set two school indoor track and field records as the Chestnut Hill college Women's Track and field team closed out the indoor portion of their 2024 season with a solid performance at the Fastrack Last Chance Invitational at Ocean breeze Athletic complex in Staten Island, New York.
Two personal-best marks were set in addition to Hassler's two records and the Griffins totaled six top 25 finishers at the meet.
Hassler started her day by winning her section in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:28.76, taking 5.1 seconds off the school record of 2:33.86 set by Irene Canizares-Liull in 2018 and equaled by Hassler last week on the same Ocean Breeze track. Overall, Hassler finished 22
nd.Â
The sophomore mid-distance runner followed her record breaking 800-meter performance with a third place finish in her section of the 400-meter dash event with school-record time of 1:06.91, 1.15 seconds faster than Brittany Kahhan's mark of 1:08.91 set back in 2019. Overall, Hassler finished 25
th.
Sprinter
Solanje James also bettered Kahhan's mark, finishing fourth in her heat, just .3 seconds behind Hassler with a personal-best time of 1:07.21. James also placed tenth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.58 seconds. She also ran in the 200-meter dash, finishing with a time of 29.30 seconds.
Aubrey Elias had the Griffins remaining personal best mark with a time of 5:35.03, placing 13
th overall in the mile run. Â
Rebecca Dalton was 15
th with a time of 5:39.44.
Sydney Watts narrowly missed breaking her own school record in the 3,000 meter run, finishing seventh overall with a time of 11:06.29, just .05 seconds off her best time.
The women's track and field team will begin the outdoor portion of their season on March 29, 2024, when they compete at the Danny Curran Invitational, hosted by Widener University.
