Five personal best marks were recorded as the Chestnut Hill College Women's Track and Field team opened the outdoor portion of their 2024 season at the Danny Curran Invitational last weekend at Widener University in Chester Pennsylvania.
Three of the five personal best marks came at the distance and mid distance events.
Sydney Watts place 25
th overall in the 5,000 meter run with a personal best time of 19:34.35 while
Rebecca Dalton and
Aubrey Elias recorded personal best times in the 1,500 meter run.  Dalton finished the race in 5:12.49 while Elias was right behind her, crossing the finish line in 5:15.59.
Sprinter
Solanje James notched a personal best in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13:55. Thrower
Erin McCarthy rounded out the five personal best marks with a toss of 25.82 meters (84'8") in the javelin competition, finishing 16
th overall.
McCarthy also competed in the shot put along with teammate
Anastasia Watson. Watson also recorded the Griffins' highest finish of the meet with a fourth place effort in the discus throw at 35.50 meters (116' 6").
Moving back to the track,
Gabby Hassler became the first Griffin to compete in the 3000 meter steeplechase since Raquel Lopez in 2018. Hassler finished 12
th in the event with a time of 13:42.11.
Another first time outdoor track and field competitor was
Deanna Otero. Otero, a sprinter, competed in the 100 and 200 meter dash events, recording times of 14.37 seconds and 30.71 seconds respectively.  James also competed in the 200 meter event, finishing with a time of 29.24 seconds.
The women's track and field team returns to action on Friday April 5 with the start of the Ursinus College Track and field Festival in Collegeville, Pennsylvania. Competition at Ursinus will continue through Saturday, April 6, 2024.
