Emanuel Preston broke the school record for the 200 meter dash and nearly broke another in the 400-meter dash as the Chestnut Hill college Men's Track and Field team wrapped up their two days on competition at the Ursinus College Track and Field Festival in Collegeville, Pennsylvania on Saturday.
In addition to Preston's performance, Griffin athletes recorded eight additional top 20 finishes and three additonal personal-best marks.
Preston opened his Saturday with a spectacular performance in the 400-meter dash, winning the event with a time of 51.44 seconds, a personal-best mark. His time is the second fastest in program history, just .57 seconds behind Ed Vanterpool's record mark of 50.87 seconds set back in 2018.
The sophomore sprinter than shattered the school record of 22.59 seconds set back in 2015 by Emmanuel Egbosimbah with a fourth place finish and a personal best time of 22.31 seconds and putting his name in the Chestnut Hill College Track and Field record book for the third time after setting the indoor school records for both the 200 and 400 meter events earlier this year.
Fellow sprinter
Bryce Hunter also set a personal best mark in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.98 seconds, placing 12
th overall.
Personal-best marks were also set by
Braden Berkey in the 5,000 meter run (7
th place, 16:45.7) and by
Michael Lopez-Zabala in the javelin throw (10
th place, 36.80 meters (120' 9")).
The men's 4x100 meter relay team of Hunter, Preston,
Donald Bonham, and
Tyheem Bailey took home fourth place in the event with a time of 44.78 seconds. Bailey also recorded a top-20 finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.57 seconds, placing 16
th overall.
Cole Stanchina rounded out the Griffins' top-20 performances on the track with a 13
th place finish in the 1,500 meter run, crossing the finish line in 4:20.52 seconds.
In the field events,
Jason Chedester placed ninth in the shot put with a throw of 10.74 meters (35' 3") and 13
th in the javelin with a toss of 36.52 meters (119'10").
The men's track and field team returns to action on Friday April 12, 2024, when the compete at the Steenson Invitational in Owings Mills, Maryland.
