Emanuel Preston broke two school records while
Cole Stanchina raced to two second place finishes as the Chestnut Hill College closed out their 2024 Track and Field Season with a ninth place finish at the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Lakewood, New Jersey.
The Griffins finished with 26 points, five behind eighth place Dominican University. Holy Family University captured their first CACC title with 148 points.
On Saturday, Preston qualified for both the 100 and 200 meter dash finals, breaking the school record in both events with times of 10.93 second and 22.19 seconds, respectively. Preston was second in his 100 meter heat and fifth overall and third in his 200 meter heat and seventh overall, qualifying for the finals in both events.
Stanchina raced to a second place finish in the 10,000 meter run on Saturday with a time of 32:07.64 to earn his first CACC Track and Field all-conference honor. Stanchina's second place time was 26 seconds faster than the previous meet record and 14.4 seconds behind this year's winner Joey Datta of Caldwell.
The two runners had almost an identical day on Sunday, with Stanchina bettering the old CACC record in the 5,000 meter run by seven seconds with a time of 15:19.30 but finishing second to Datta who pulled away to win by five seconds. Stanchina's second place finish earned him his second all-conference honor of the meet.
Preston meanwhile bettered his times from Saturday in both the 100 and 200 meter dash events. Preston raced to a fourth place finish with a time of 21.80 seconds in the 200 meter dash and also placed fourth in the 100 meter dash with a wind-aided time of 10.83 seconds, thus not counting as a new school record, which remains at 10.93 second, Preston's preliminary time from Saturday.
Rounding out the Griffin competitors completing their events were javelin thrower
Jason Chedester and distance runner
Braden Berkey. Chester placed ninth in the javelin throw with a distance of 38.45 meters (126'2") while Berkey was 11
th in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 16:40.60
The Griffins 4 x100 meter relay team did not finish as two runners in the group pulled up with injuries during the race.
The meet concludes the Griffins 2024 Track and Field season.
