Griffins Open Outdoor Season at the Purple and Gold Open at West Chester

Two top ten finishes and three personal best efforts highlighted the Chestnut Hill College Men's Track and Field teams' performance at this weekend's Purple and Gold Open hosted by West Chester University.

Braden Berkey took home a third place finish in the 5,000-meter run on Friday, recording a time of 17:05.01 to kick off the competition.   Rudolph Del Prete was 13th in the event with a time of 21:20.30

Michael Lopez-Zapala recorded a fifth place finish in the javelin throw with a personal best throw of 40.24 meters (132'0").  His throw also qualified him for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference championship meet to be held in May.   Demetri Pierre-Perez also turned in a personal best effort in the javelin throw, placing 13th overall with a throw of 31.58 meters (103' 7").

Chestnut Hill's final personal-best mark came in the 1,500-meter run as Ryan O'Hara completed the race with a time of 4:46.01

In the sprints, Elijah Bey made his Griffins debut, racing in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dash events.  Bey finished with a time of 12.12 seconds in the 100-meter event and 26.09 seconds at the 200.  Donald Bonham competed in the 100-meter dash finishing with a time of 14.90 seconds.

The men's track and field team returns to action for the Danny Curran Invitational at Widener University on March 28-29, 2025.
