Four members of the Chestnut Hill College Women's Basketball team have been named to the 2024-25 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District® Women's Basketball team in an announcement made by the organization and the CSC Academic All-America® committee earlier this week
Named to the Academic All-District® team were seniors Bri Rider, Caleigh Edwards and Emily Sekerak along with junior Avery White. White and Sekerak also earned CSC Academic All District honors in 2023-24, becoming the first two women's basketball players in program history to earn Academic All-District® honors twice.
The 2024-25 Academic All-District® Women's Basketball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field or court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes women's basketball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
To be eligible for Academic All-District® accolades, student-athletes must be at least at sophomore athletically and academically, appear in 90 percent of their team's contests or start in 66% and have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or better. Graduate students must have a 3.50 cumulative GPA in both their undergraduate and graduate programs.
Sekerak, an early education/special education double major, was named to the CACC All-Academic Team and earned D2ADA Academic Achievement Award accolades in each of the past two academic years. The senior post player has also earned Dean's List and CHC Athletic Academic Honor roll accolades in every semester while at Chestnut Hill. Sekerak along with Rider is one of just 14 players in program history to play in 100 or more games (103) and ranks among the Griffins' top 25 all-time scorers with 594 points.
White, a business administration and management major, has scored 300 or more points and dished out 100 or more assists in each of the past two seasons while playing in every game during that span. White ranks fifth all-time among CHC's career assist leaders and among the top 25 all-time in scoring. The junior point guard was selected to the CACC All-Tournament team in 2024. A CACC all-Academic Team and Arthur Ashe Sports Scholar First Team honoree in 2023-24, White also earned Dean's List and CHC Athletic Academic Honor roll accolades in every semester while at Chestnut Hill.
Rider, a senior biology major, started all 29 games for the Griffins and had the best season of her four-year career in 24-25, recording career highs in points (199), rebounds (177) while leading the CACC in field goal percentage, shooting 52.8%. The senior small forward is soon to be a three-time CACC All-Academic team honoree and has also served as the President of CHC's Student Athletic Advisory committee (SAAC) for the past two years. She is a member of the Tri-Alpha and Delta Epsilon Sigma honor societies, and a Dean's List student as well as an Arthur Ashe Sports Scholar winner in 2023-24.
Edwards just completed her second year at Chestnut Hill, playing in every game over the past two seasons and ranks among the Griffins' top 15 all-time in assists and steals. A business administration and management major, Edwards has been a dean's list student every semester while at Chestnut Hill and was inducted into Sigma Beta Delta Business honor society in the spring of 2024.
All four student-athletes were named to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Academic honor roll in each of the past three semesters.
Academic All-District® honorees are reviewed by a group of Academic All-America® committee members for consideration for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America® national ballot, where first, second and third team Academic All-America® honorees are chosen by the CSC Division II membership and the Academic All-America® core committee. Honorees will be announced in mid-April.
