Men's Basketball Team Earns NABC Team Academic Excellence Award as Six Players also Named to NABC Honors Court

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) has announced the 2024-2025 NABC Honors Court and Team Academic Excellence awards on Thursday, recognizing men's collegiate basketball student-athletes and teams in all NCAA divisions and the NAIA, who excelled in academics during the past season.

The Griffins were honored with the Team Academic Excellence Award and placed a record six members of their 2024-25 team on this year's Honors Court.

This year's Team Academic Excellence Award  marks the first  time that the Chestnut Hill men's basketball team has earned the award. 

The Griffins were one of just three teams from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference to be named an NABC Team Academic Excellence award winner. For 2024-25.  In addition, Chestnut Hill college is one of just nine team in the NCAA division II East Region to earn this honor.

Seniors Neal Hill and Lucas Dunn were again selected to the Honors Court, making them the first two players in program history to earn the honor twice.  Joining Hill and Dunn were graduate students Noah Charles and Tommy Gardler along with juniors Alejandro Redondo Cybak and Landon Shivers.

The NABC Honors Court highlights the talents and gifts that these men possess on the court and the hard work they exhibit in the classroom. In order to be named to the Honors Court, a student-athlete must meet a high standard of academic criteria with a cumulative g.p.a. of 3.2 or better at the conclusion of the 2024-25 academic year and be a junior or senior academically.  A basketball coach from the institution must also be an NABC member.

Hill graduated in May with a degree in accounting.  He earned  College Sports communicators (CSC) Academic All-district honors for the 2023-24 season and was also an Arthur Ashe Diversity Sports Scholar that same year.  He is a two time Central Atlantic Collegiate conference all-Academic team and a three time CACC Academic honor roll recipient.  The senior forward was also inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma, the national Student athlete honor society in April of 2024.  Hill has been named to the Chestnut Hill College Dean's List four times and the CHC Athletic Academic Honor Roll six times.  

Dunn graduated in May with a degree in business administration and management with minors in accounting and finance. He was named to the CACC Academic Honor roll in each of the last four semesters and has recorded a 3.0 g.p.a. or higher in every semester at Chestnut Hill.

Charles earned his master's in business administration degree in May of this season.  He earned Dean's List honors twice as an undergraduate at Chestnut Hill.

Gardler joined the Griffins this season after transferring into the college from La Salle University and is pursuing a master's degree in organizational leadership.

Cybak, a junior post player and a computer science major was named to the CSC Men's basketball Academic All-district team for 2024-25 along with earning CACC All-Academic Team honors. Cybak has also earned Dean's List honors in every semester at Chestnut Hill and was named to the CACC Academic Honor Roll in each of the last four semesters.

Shivers, a newcomer to the Griffins in 2024-25, also was named to the CSC Men's Basketball Academic All-district team this past season. He earned Dean's List honors in both semesters during this academic year along with CACC Academic Honor roll accolades in both semesters.

The six Griffins honorees were among 36  CACC athletes named to the 24-25 NABC Honors Court.  The two repeat honorees (Hill and Dunn)  along with the first-time honorees give the Griffins a total of ten players in the history of the program to earn NABC Honors Court accolades.
