Dutra Hat-trick Draws CACC Men’s Soccer Weekly Honor Roll Recognition

New Haven, Conn. - (9/23/2019) – Senior midfielder Pedro Dutra (Passos, Brazil) was all over the field on Saturday, September 21, providing a hat-trick performance that saw him score the Griffins’ first (1-0, 13:33), third  (3-1, 44:48), and fifth goals (5-2, 89:51) of a 5-2 win over Nyack College. The effort earned Dutra a mention on this week’s Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men’s Soccer Honor Roll.

Chestnut Hill College’s (2-1-1, 1-0) moved the ball well on Nyack College (0-3-2, 0-1) and an early corner gave senior defenseman Paris Bruhn (Horst Holstein, Germany) a golden opportunity to give the Griffins an edge. At 13:33, Bruhn played the restart to the far post, where a perfectly positioned Dutra nodded the ball for the contest’s opening tally (1-0). The Warriors erased the Scarlet and Gold lead at 21:02, using an odd-man rush to outmaneuver the Griffin defense (1-1). A little more than six minutes later (27:35), senior midfielder Mo Ehmer (Surrey, England) drew a foul in the Warrior goal box to earn a penalty kick. He converted the opportunity return Chestnut Hill College to the lead (2-1). The Griffin lead increased to two goals just 12 seconds before halftime (44:48), when senior defender Stephen Finore (Broomall, Pa.) directed the ball to Dutra for another successful header (3-1). In the second half, Nyack College looked to rally as freshman midfielder Erwin Bendl (Bad Voeslau, Austria) found senior forward Joshua Schliesing (Zermatt, Switzerland) behind the Scarlet and Gold defense for a goal at 67:30 (3-2). But, the Griffins had too much firepower for the Warriors as an Ehmer header and a cross from Cesar May Casteneda (Exton, Pa.) set up sophomore midfielder David Cortez (Wilkes-Barre, Pa.) for a goal just after the 75-minute mark (4-2, 75:01), and Dutra’s third tally (89:51) extended the Chestnut Hill College margin of victory to three goals; 5-2.

Dutra got plenty of help keeping the Nyack College defense busy as his six shots were complimented by multi-shot efforts from Cortez (4) and freshman forward Luciano Torres (Tucuman, Argentina) (3).
