Kalala Claims CACC Women's Volleyball Player of the Week Awar

New Haven, Conn. - (11/4/2019) –
Chestnut Hill College junior outside hitter Corrine Kalala (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) scored a team-high 32.5 points in a 2-0 week of league play to earn the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week award. Kalala scored 31 balls on a .417 (31K-6E-60TA) hitting percentage and assisted on three blocks between wins over Goldey-Beacom College (3-0; 26-24, 25-20, 25-19 on October 30) and Nyack College (3-1; 25-14, 25-22, 22-25, 25-18). This is her first CACC Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week award of the season and her sixth appearance on the league’s weekly report.

Chestnut Hill College (12-11, 9-6) made it a sweep of Goldey-Beacom College (5-17, 2-11) with Wednesday, October 30, night's 3-0 (26-24, 25-20, 25-19) CACC road win. The Griffins made it a quick trip to down the 95, putting the Lightning away with successive wins of 26-24, 25-20, and 25-19; the Scarlet and Gold came back late to win the opening set in extended fashion, separated from Goldey-Beacom College late in the second set, and gave the Lightning little hope of a rally with a decided victory in the third set. Kalala and freshman setter Henielys Ramos (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico) were the main cogs in a .255 (41K-14E-106TA) Chestnut Hill College hitting percentage with 19 kills and 28 assists, respectively.

Getting back on the playoff path, Chestnut Hill College extended their current winning streak to three matches with Saturday’s (November 2) 3-1 (25-14, 25-22, 22-25, 25-18) CACC victory at Nyack College. The Griffins took the first two sets – 25-14 and 25-22 - to gain an early 2-0 advantage on the Warriors. After surrendering the third set, 25-22, the Scarlet and Gold used a 9-4 opening run to clinch the match with an eventual 25-18 fourth-set victory. In a balanced performance, Chestnut Hill College featured five players with 10 points or more; Kalala (12 kills, 2 block assists) and Ramos (9 kills, three aces, two block assists) lead the group with 13.0 point apiece. Kalala added an assist and five digs to her 13 points.
