New Haven, CT – (4/26/2010) – Freshman Joe Boyle (Doylestown, PA) advanced further into the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Individual Championship Tournament than any other first-year player to be named the league’s Rookie of the Year. As a result he became the second Griffin to be named CACC Men’s Tennis Rookie of the Week.

Boyle was joined in the individual draw by teammates, sophomore Julius Twyman (Coatesville, PA) and freshman Pat Joson (Old Bridge, NJ). Boyle reached the semifinal round after defeating junior Joshua Getka (Cape May, NJ) of Caldwell College 10-0 and junior Francisco Garcia (Balcarce Buenos Aires, Argentina) of the University of the Sciences, 6-3, 6-3. At the end of the first day of competition he was positioned to challenge top-seeded, sophomore Adrian Torroella-Cruz (Gainesville, FL) of Philadelphia University in semifinal competition. Unfortunately, Torroella-Cruz defeated Boyle 6-3, 6-1, before besting his teammate, sophomore Manoli Sgouros (Forest Hills, NY), 6-2, 7-5 in the championship match. At tournament’s end, Boyle was named the CACC Rookie of the Year. With their play in the doubles draw, junior Carson Richter (Lafayette Hill, PA) and Twyman also earned all-conference status for Chestnut Hill College (13-13, 7-5).
