Arredondo Scores CACC Softball Weekly Honor Roll Appearance

New Haven, Conn. - (4/5/2021) – Chestnut Hill College got the bats going earlier in the second game versus Goldey-Beacom College on Monday, March 29, as senior centerfielder Devon Horner (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) and senior shortstop Nadine Arredondo (Stephenville, Texas) both knocked in first-inning runs, 2-0. Arredondo later tied the game at 7-7 with a two-run, sixth-inning single, unfortunately the Lightning eventually completed their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) sweep of the Griffins with four runs in the bottom of the frame, 11-7. Arredondo was recognized on the CACC Softball Weekly Honor Roll for her play in the affair.

Junior catcher Victoria Grillo (Staten Island, N.Y.) and junior third baseman Gabrielle O’Byrne (Moorestown, N.J.) recorded the only Chestnut Hill College (0-8, 0-6) runs of the opener; the latter was beaned to lead off the second inning and scored, before singling in the former in the third inning. Junior first baseman Julianna Barry (Northridge, Calif.) (1-for-2) and freshman second baseman Peyton Baldwin (Conshohocken, Pa.) (1-for-3) recorded the other two Scarlet and Gold hits.

Unfortunately, Goldey-Beacom College (2-2, 2-2) platted five first-inning runs after Horner and Arredondo’s early production, 5-2. Chestnut Hill College got two of those runs back in the second inning thanks to a two-run double to center from sophomore right fielder Samantha Toro (Brick, N.J.), 5-4. The Lightning reestablished their three-run advantage with a two-run fourth inning, 7-4. Again, the Griffins rallied in the sixth inning, this time catching the Lightning with an O’Byrne ground out to short, 7-5, and an Arredondo single back through the center of the diamond, 7-7. Still, in a see-saw affair, Goldey-Beacom College answered with four sixth-inning runs of their own en route the 11-7 final. Horner (2-for-5, 1R, 1RBI), Arredondo (2-for-4, 3RBI), and senior Taylor Carter (Fort Washington, Pa.) (2-for-2, 2R) recorded two hits apiece. Grillo (1-for-3, 2R) and Toro (1-for-3, 2BI) recorded the others.

Chestnut Hill College returns to action tomorrow, Tuesday, April 6, as they visit Wilmington University for a 2:30 p.m. CACC doubleheader.
