Michael Melnychenko (St. Catharines, Ontario) was named the East Coast Conference (ECC) Player of the Week and senior
Joseph Donnelly (Newtown Square, Pa.) was an Honor Roll mention on the league’s Weekly Report. Melnychenko totaled 12 points, six ground balls, and four caused turnovers while Donnelly recorded 19 saves and four ground balls.
On Wednesday, April 16, Melnychenko headlined another big win for Chestnut Hill College (6-5, 4-3) as the Griffins topped Post University 20-6 triumph. The Griffins controlled the contest from beginning until end, scoring ten goals in each half and winning a majority of the face-offs thanks to a team effort from the midfield unit. Melnychenko took over in the second half, scoring three times and assisting once in a four-goal run that pushed the Griffins to a 15-3 lead and eventual victory. He totaled eight points with five goals and three assists coming in addition to three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Donnelly earned the win (5-5) with three saves in the opening 30 minutes.
Saturday’s, April 19, ECC contest was anything but boring as the Griffins scored a 14-6 senior-day victory while contributing to 31:30 minutes of penalty time with the University of the District of Columbia (UDC). The game was slow to start, but as the Griffins pulled away for a 7-1 halftime advantage, an 11-3 third-quarter edge, and an eventual 14-6 victory, the yellow flags continued to fly at the Plymouth Whitemarsh High School Football Stadium. Melnychenko grabbed three ground balls and caused two turnovers in addition to his two goals and two assists while Donnelly earned the win (6-5) with 16 saves and four ground balls.
The men’s lacrosse team completes their 2014 regular season schedule with a 2:15 p.m. ECC contest at Roberts Wesleyan College on Saturday, April 26.
