Jackson Secures CACC Defensive Player of the Week, Doherty and Jaffé Appear on Honor Roll
New Haven, Conn. - (9/15/2015) – After an 1-0-1 week, which included a 3-1 win over the University of the District of Columbia in the home opener on Wednesday, September 9, and a 1-1 double-overtime tie in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) season opener at Concordia College (NY) on Saturday, September 12, junior goalkeeper James Jackson (Sewell, N.J.) earned the league’s Defensive Player of the Week award while senior midfielder Nicholas Jaffe (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and freshman forward Jason Doherty (Letterkenney Donegal, Ireland) earned Honor Roll mentions.
The greenest members of the Chestnut Hill College (1-2-1, 0-0-1) men's soccer team paved the way for a red-hot second half in Wednesday’s home opener opposite University of the District of Columbia (UDC). Freshmen accounted for all three unanswered goals after intermission, with Jason Burns (Douglassville, Pa.) assisting on the tying strike by Jaffe (1-1 at 58:06) and Doherty supplying his first two collegiate tallies (70:29 & 81:41) for a 3-1 victory. Senior forward Juan Amaya (Cartagena, Colombia) assisted on both of Doherty's markers as first-year head coach Julian Fernandez collected his inaugural win. Jackson totaled five saves in the win (1-2-1).
On Saturday, Concordia College (NY) owned a 19-12 shot advantage in regulation, but both Chestnut Hill College and the Clippers scored in the final five minutes of regulation before settling on a 110-minute tie. The home side scored first at 85:48, but just a 1:15 later senior midfielder Matthew Casaletto (Sewell, N.J.) drilled a 30-yard strike that soared over the Clippers' goalkeeper to tie the contest for good. Casaletto and Jaffe were two of four Griffins with three shots, Doherty took one, and Jackson made eight saves.
The men’s soccer team continues their CACC schedule on Wednesday, September 16, when they visit Goldey-Beacom College for a 3:00 p.m. contest.
