Isaac Gets First Mention On Weekly CACC Honor Roll

New Haven, Conn. - (12/14/2015) – Despite a pair of league setbacks at Goldey-Beacom College, 82-73 on December 8, and versus Philadelphia University, 69-54 on December 12, sophomore guard Demetrius Isaac (Philadelphia, Pa.) continues to make his way to the basket, garnering an Honorable Mention on this week’s Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Report. A first time mention, Isaac averaged 18.5 points-per-game (PPG) and 2.5 rebounds-per-game (RPG) while collecting six assists, a block, and two steals.

Goldey-Beacom College nearly led the whole way in Tuesday night's CACC contest, and for most by double digits, as a fleeting Chestnut Hill College rally only narrowed the final margin to nine points, 82-73. Isaac served as the Griffins' leading scorer with his sixth double digit performance of the season providing 19 points in addition to four assists and two steals.

Chestnut Hill College (3-6, 1-2) took their only lead of the affair, 16-15, on a three point basket from freshman forward Dakpe Yiljep (Samaru-Zaria, Nigeria) with 12:13 to play in the opening half. But Goldey-Beacom College (2-7, 1-2) regained their edge, pushing their lead to 11 points, 29-18, by 7:44 and expanding it to 16 points, 38-22, with 3:35 still to play in the frame. Freshman forward Antonio Toplyn Jr. (Sicklerville, N.J.) kept the Griffins alive, forcing his way to a series of late free throws that held the Lightning's halftime advantage at 15 points, 46-31. In the second half, the home team advanced their lead past 20 points, increasing their lead to as many as 22 points (69-47) with 10:57 still to play. A determined pride of Griffins returned the deficit to single digits, 80-71, on a last-minute layup from sophomore forward Edward McWade (Wildwood, N.J.) (0:51), unfortunately, that is where the final spread remained as time ran out on the Griffin comeback.

On Saturday, Sorgenti Arena was filled with the Scarlet and Gold faithful one more time before the New Year as Chestnut Hill College hosted cross-Henry rival Philadelphia University in an afternoon league tilt. The high-paced Griffins ran their offense efficiently in the first half, staking a 32-30 advantage on the sophomore drive and kick combo of Isaac and forward McWade. Yet a slow start to the second half set the stage for a Ram run that lost the Griffins in a 15-point final, 69-54. Isaac was 8-of-15 (.533) from the floor and 2-of-2 (1.000) from the free throw line while collecting five rebounds, two assists, and a block in an 18-point performance.

?Isaac is currently averaging 14.8 PPG and 3.4 RPG while leading the Griffins in assists (36) and offering a block and 16 steals on defense.

The Griffins' next CACC challenge takes place at Wilmington University on Wednesday, December 16, when they tip-off against the Wildcats in an 8:00 p.m. contest.
