Guagenti Garners Second Straight CACC Weekly Honor Roll Mention

New Haven, Conn. - (10/17/2016) – Junior goalkeeper Meghan Guagenti (Pennsauken, N.J.) made her third appearance on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women’s Soccer Weekly Report, earning an Honor Roll mention for the second time in as many weeks. Guagenti also garnered the CACC Defensive Player of the Week award on October 5, after making nine saves in Chestnut Hill College’s 5-0, season-opening, triumph over Barton College on October 2.

Nyack College (6-8, 6-4) opened the game applying enormous pressure to the Chestnut Hill College (4-8-2, 2-6-1) backline, earning back-to-back corner kicks in the sixth minute. But Guagenti was up to the task, turning aside the Warriors’ assaults until the Griffins generated their first opportunity of the game in the 15th minute of the match. Sophomore midfielder Brianna Ferrell (Newtown Square, Pa.) unsuccessfully redirected a cross with her head, but the Scarlet and Gold continued to apply pressure and earned their second corner kick of the day. Junior defender Kiersten Cobb-Wilkins (Lowman, N.Y.) made use of the restart as a scramble in the box ended with the oncoming head of sophomore midfielder Marikate O'Toole (Philadelphia, Pa.) and left Chestnut Hill College with a 1-0 advantage at 23:01. Following the Griffin goal, the Warriors continued to apply pressure. Still, Guagenti was able to turn Nyack College away and preserve the lead heading to intermission.

Late in the second half, a Scarlet and Gold substitution paid immediate dividends as freshman midfielder Geena DiRugeris (Woodbury, N.J.) came in during the 73rd minute (72:08) and scored just over a minute later (73:15), when O'Toole found her with a long pass into the box, 2-0. The Warriors mounted a late surge, peppering the Chestnut Hill College backline with three shots over the final six minutes. Fortunately, Guagenti and the Griffin defense held strong, allowing Chestnut Hill College to advance their unbeaten streak to five games (3-0-2). Guagenti (3-6-1) turned aside seven shots in the shutout victory; her third such victory of the season.

The Chestnut Hill College women’s tennis team continues their CACC schedule on Tuesday, October 18, when they travel to Georgian Court University for 3:30 p.m. kickoff.
